I took my wife to this movie and pried her a bit on the way home to make her think about how sometimes the people we trust are our enemies.
The Disney movie, TANGLED, is their spin on the Repunzel story. I'll try not to spoil their movie and still make the point of why this is a great movie to take a JW to, the older and closer to adulthood the better. You total adults with JW adult loved ones should drag them to it.
The villain takes Repunzel away from her life (as a baby) and keeps her in "the tower" for her own evil purposes. The villain becomes "Mother" and Repunzel thinks Mother is wise and protecting and that she must obey Mother. Mother convinces her that (literally) "the world is full of cruel people out to hurt you." When Repunzel is exposed to a taste of the world as a near-adult, it isn't as evil as Mother says and her curiosity gets to her to get out into the world she has never seen from "the tower."
Repunzel has the guilt of disobeying Mother as she dares to look at the world outside of the tower. She goes back and forth and even goes back to her life in "the tower" at one point.
So it turns out that the one thing that was solid in her life was actually the evil in her life and she had been misled. The evil outside was actually the good she needed that wanted to help her out. I'll spoil it a bit here, so don't tell your kids if you plan to take them (or stop reading now).
Repunzel figures it out on her own from her own brain and her own eyes, but would have willingly stayed in her situation to help a loved one.
