All Time Jeff told me he was beaten nearly to death on the streets of the 3rd world country where he served not very long after he started his missionary work there. The Watchtower Bastards Society made him pay his own way back. They only issue one-way tickets and that is not negotiable.

Part of it is JW tradition. That shouldn't be over thought.
The other part is that it legitimizes JWs in many parts of the world legally.

Hello Belbab,,your experience hit me so hard in the heart,,I never desired to go to Gilead ,,went to Bethel instead,, I knew a very memorable Gilead student gal. Maria (69-'70),, from Puerto Rico, sent to Ecuador ( I think) ..good as they come too,, she died in her assignment,, my heart sinks as she was so genuine, outstanding. But I know Knorr was cruel as they come in my opinion.. I know, I should get over it,, I have ,, my life so far removed now,, but I too,, in some unique aspects,, that are difficult to relate to, to this day.
