    Let me explain................

There is an old joke that directs us to consider what the future will be

A bunch of scientists create the greatest computer of all time, containing all human knowledge. They ponder what to do with it. One of them says, "let's ask it a question! " Another replies, "like what?" A third says, " I know, let's ask it Is there a God?"

So, they ask the computer and it replies, " THERE IS NOW!"

This, to me, is the vision of guys like Ray Kurzweil ('the Singularity') and Art Bell ('the Quickening') or others ('the Omega Point') All knowledge and consciousness gets tied together by computer/ internet/ wireless technology and it accelerates from there.

Suppose you held All Human Knowledge In Your Hand? - With Your I-Phone, this situation is almost here!

And what would you expect from a really useful "God"? Good advice on any subject? In depth knowledge of anything? Info on health, wealth or employment? Almost here! (It reminds me of an old "Outer Limits" episode called "Demon With a Glass Hand")

Recently, I got hit with responsibility for a disabled relative. After (Witness) relatives begged off, I turned to the Internet "God" and found health advice, Craigslist and Ebay for everything needed and in depth medical information from Medline to confront the doctors with.

The Emergent (and Practical) Internet "God". It's almost here...... and I'm thankful..........

I too believe in the Google God. I've found answers to practically everything I've typed into its search engine. Need a manual for a certain product, type in product name + manual = BAM! Downloaded. Want to know what the Gnostic Bible is? Type it in, BAM! There you go Google Docs has it online. Need a currency converter? Translator? Need medical advice or questions to ask? WebMD to the rescue...

Yes, the internet "God" is almost here...

This internet god may already be an oracle, but what will be wrought when it wants to be a creator or a destroyer of worlds?

As for me, I tend to worry that the memes are about to evolve from their dependence upon biological repositories and leave us behind

Here's "Demon With A Glass Hand" - one of the most original SF episodes ever on TV. It led to the Terminator movies.

Suppose you held All Human Knowledge In Your Hand? - With Your I-Phone

I have had iPhones for about 3 years, and still marvel at the power in my hand. With the right mix of apps I can reduce the time it takes to do things from days to seconds. I can access more specific knowledge on a subject in an hour than I could have found on that same subject in a lifetime as little as 100 years ago.

Imagine you lived 500 years ago and you wanted to know if it's safe to give your dog a piece of your chocolate bar.

You ask the guy next to you. . . He doesn't know.

You ask your dog. . . He says: "YES YES YES GIMME"

You go outside and ask some random guy on the street. He doesn't have a dog.

You can clasp your hands and pray for the answer. No response.

You have just exhausted your knowledge base. Sure you could go to a library. But how the heck are you supposed to find that particular piece of information? You could ask a vet and hope he knows. He may or may not.

But NOW if you want to know if it's safe to give your dog a piece of chocolate you can just go to google and type in: "Dog Cho______"

You don't even have to finish typing it in and google is giving you your answer on the very first link. Because not only does it know the answer to your question, it knows what you are about to ask.

Google has God beat big time.

Are you asking about memes? They are cultural particles, mind viruses, thought genes, and other various socially transmitted information that is replicated and propagated through social interaction. When people only contact a small groups of others in a lifetime, transmission is limited. Mass communication speeds up and amplifies transmission. The internet and cyberspace offer cultural bits and ideas unlimited storage and instant transmission. I am just asking how long before the internet is talking to itself and the human users are beside the point.
