That 1993 quote includes quotes from their magazine in the years of 1883 and 1896 in their defence. But the scan above of the 1894 quote clearly says otherwise. Talk about twisted. No wonder very few ask questions when you have to deal with the most absurd explanations that are offered.

The stupid logic that goes something like 'well we have said this which clearly means we couldn't have meant such and such when we said that, therefore we have to work out in what sense we would have meant that and without a doubt it didn't mean what you think it meant but must have meant such and such. It is not us getting it wrong but the way you are reading it, you've got to consider all that we have written (in the 1,000s of mags that have been written and once you have a firm grasp of what we are saying, that is, the deeper meanings of God's word, it may be possible then that you will see we are right. But given that you probably won't fully understand these meanings just be patient and things will become clearer when the time is right for you to have a better grasp on these matters.

For 50 plus years the masthead of the Watchtower,viewed when you opened up to the inside front cover would read as follows:
"This magazine(Watchtower) builds up confidence in the Creators PROMISE of a peaceful and secure *new world* before the generation *that witnessed" the events of 1914 passes away*.
By their own admission the Watchtowers has published this dogma in hundreds of millions of pieces of their own literature.
They deleted this false adventist millerite derived prophecy in 1995 because it had FAILED.

Note that they have placed the word prophet in quotes..What is this meant to tell the reader? The use of quote marks may be to signify that they are quoting from The Bible and applying the title to themselves. Or, they may argue, it is used to signify that the word is here used in an unusual even ironic sense (just as we might sarcasticly write about the "love" shown by the WTS)

I think this is deliberatly misleading. They seem to not want the responsibility of actually being a prophet . After all, they know that predictions go wrong. However, they do want the obedience that goes with the status of God's prophet. So...they carefully use this punctuation in order to give themselves some wriggle room if challenged.

Anyone reading chapter 4 of the "The Know Jehovah - How?" book is left in no doubt that they claim to be the modern day "Ezekiel" appointed by God in 1919 "to speak to all the nations in His name" (quote page 66) and proclaim doom and destruction on Christendom.....

Is that not acting as a prophet?

If the words of the Organization™ are NOT Jehovah's words, there's no use in listening to them or following their direction.

If the Organization™ really was following Jesus, its words would come true. Since its words have not come true, then they aren't really following Jesus. And since they plainly are not following Jesus, its words cannot be Jehovah's words, and are not worthy of being listened to or followed.
