Steve Winwood/While You See A Chance

Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see what can be
Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free?
Can you be?
When some cold tomorrow finds you
When some sad old dream reminds you
How the endless road unwinds you
While you see a chance take it
Find romance, fake it
Because it's all on you
Don't you know by now
No one gives you anything?
Don't you wonder how you keep on moving
One more day?
Your way
Ooooooooh, your way
When there's no one left to leave you
Even you don't quite believe you
That's when nothing can deceive you
While you see a chance take it
Find romance, fake it
Because it's all on you
Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see
What can be
Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free?
Can you be?
And that old gray wind is blowing
And there's nothing left worth knowing
And it's time you should be going
While you see a chance take it
Find romance
While you see a chance take it
Find romance
While you see a chance take it
Find romance
While you see a chance take it
Find romance
While you see a chance take it
Find romance -

Bruce Springsteen with Tom Morello/The Ghost Of Tom Joad (live)

Men walkin' 'long the railroad tracks
Goin' someplace there's no goin' back
Highway patrol choppers comin' up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Shelter line stretchin' round the corner
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleepin' in their cars in the southwest
No home no job no peace no rest
The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad
He pulls prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and takes a drag
Waitin' for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
Got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
Bathin' in the city aqueduct
The highway is alive tonight
But where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Waitin' on the ghost of Tom Joad
Now Tom said "Mom, wherever there's a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight 'gainst the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me Mom I'll be there
Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand
Or decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."
The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' downhere in the campfire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad -

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young/Carry On

One morning I woke up and I knew
you were really gone
A new day, a new way and new eyes
to see the dawn
Go your way, I'll go mine
and carry on
The sky is clearing and the night
has cried enough
The sun, he come, the world
to soften up
Rejoice, rejoice, we have no choice
but to carry on
The fortunes of fables are able
to sing the song
Now witness the quickness with which
we get along
To sing the blues you've got to live the dues
and carry on
Carry on
Love is coming
Love is coming to us all
Where are you going now my love?
Where will you be tomorrow?
Will you bring me happiness?
Will you bring me sorrow?
Oh, the questions of a thousand dreams
What you do and what you see
Love, again, you talk
to me.
Girl when I was on my own
chasing you down
What was it made you run
trying your best just to get around?
The questions of a thousand dreams
What you do and what you see
Love, again, you talk
to me. -

Crosby, Stills and Nash/Wasted On The Way (live)

Look around me
I can see my life before me,
running rings around the way
it used to be
I am older now,
I have more than what I wanted
But I wish that I had started
long before I did
And there's so much time to make up
everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away
Oh when you were young
did you question all the answers?
Did you envy all the dancers
who had all the nerve?
Look around you now
You must go for what you wanted
Look at all my friends who did and got what they deserved
So much time to make up
everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away
So much love to make up
everywhere you turn
Love we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away
Let the water come and carry us away -

This is one of my favs from Meat Loaf, Wasted Youth/Everything Louder. The spoken into is Jim Steinman and is actually a song in it's own right " love and death and the American guitar" but Meat put them together.
"I know that I will never be politically correct"- words I live by also
" a wasted youth is better by far than a wise and productive old age" amen

RATM - Killing In The Name - the pre-chorus and the end refrain, pretty obviously.
*Contains swearing at the end*
At the start of my fade I used to listen to RATM's first album an awful lot at work. As pumped up and angry as I was about my past, I do not recommend listening to aggressive furious music at the top of a triple-extension ladder... came pretty close to falling off a few times!

Iron Maiden - Wasted Years - the chorus especially. I always loved this song back from school days, but I hadn't listened to it for years and got back into them through a girlfriend last year. When I put this track on, the chorus (and the solo) brought me to tears. A powerful message.

Björk - Declare Independence - lyrically this is very much about independence on a national level, but it has a broader application. Plus it's one of the most powerful and aggressive songs I know, both musically and vocally. And I like the video (and love Björk to the point of obsession!).
"Damn colonists - Ignore their patronizing - Tear off their blindfolds - Open their eyes"

This last one is often too much for a lot of people ^^
As you can see I like the heavier stuff =)
