Is the U.S. still a democracy?
The U.S. has never been a democracy. We vote for representatives to vote for us.
If we were a democracy, George W. Bush would not have been voted President in 2000 since he lost the popular vote by over 400,000 votes (about the population of Wyoming) but still won the election.
The same is true in other levels of government. For example:
- A state has 3 congressmen and each district has 1,000,000 voters.
- District "A" is heavily Democratic at 80% (800,000) and 20% Republican (200,000).
- Districts "B" and "C" are each 60% Republican (600,000) and 40% Democratc (400,000).
- Therefore statewide, Democrats outnumber Republicans by 200,000 (1,600,000 vs. 1,400,000 Republicans).
But in the end, there are 2 Republican and 1 Democratic congressmen for the state even though the Democratic voters in the state clearly outnumber the Republicans.
This happens time and time again, both at the federal and state levels.
So the concept of everyones' vote counting the same is not accurate in a Representative form of government like the U.S.

Probably BETTER government should be the goal rather than more...but some people do believe more is better.

Senator (cousin) Mitch McConnell Friday called the Affordable Health Care Act the single worse piece of legislation he has seen in his 28 years as a Federal agent who has had the best Health Care for all of that time on our dime and will have that coverage the rest of his life.
VP Dick Cheney just had a heart transplant this week paid for with Health Care coverage by us. This followed Stem Cell therapy he received previously paid by us and earlier several Stent procedures paid by us.
Without insurance how many could afford any of these procedures. What private Insurance company would accept someone like Cheney as a new client.
