I grew a goatee when a witness and one elder was positive as he had lived in South Afica and reckoned I looked liked an Afrikaaner (Dutch Sth African). He was a fun, colourful character. The rest of the elders said nothing but I got zero parts in meetings. I guess I grew it for that reason. To see if spirituality was based on looks alone ( witnesses would say that your look is a reflection of your obediance). These men would gulp down gospel accounts of christ being the reader of hearts and his ascociation with prostitutes and hated tax collecters but not see the germ of truth in these writings that faith is in the "heart" not worn as a badge.

Awesome comment about "what's next, no eyebrows?" LOL.

What this is about is power and control and submission and obedience.

Obsolulately correct! I cannot agree more than that. I feel a sense of complete freedom everyday knowing that Iam not answerable to anyone in the borg as before. I sleep in peace as far as I want .

I love facial hair on men, it's natural.

Strangely men do not feel that way about leg hair on women.

In addition to looking great, my beard is also useful as a sort of "secret handshake" among faders. I ran into another inactive closet apostate at the grocery store. We hadn't seen each other since before my fade started. Once he saw my beard he knew that I was ok.

So there, Watchtower! Your pharisaical rules create opportunities for apostate fraternizing.

I always thought the clean shaven look (along with the suit and tie) was to present a solid corporate image, to set apart the Witnesses from regular folk and to give a polished presentation when peddling the magazines. Vaccum cleaner salesmen.

At the last convention the visiting speaker re-iterated the importance of door-to-door work (even if ineffective), because it is what distinguishes Witnesses.

    Corporate image again.

    Enjohing your memories.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^@ jgnat: This truly proves that they value symbolism, over substance. Disgusting.
