In the late 60s to mid-70s, the Witnesses could rightly lay claim to being one of the fastest growing religions in the developed world. Kingdom Halls were literally overflowing with lots of "newly interested ones" (ugh! what a term). No longer. Their heyday is long gone.

Beginning in the 1980s, increasing proportions of baptized members came from those raised in the religion - especially in developed (i.e., Western countries) and even then, the drop out rate is incredibly high.

The main area of JW growth nowadays is in immigrant populations whilst the host country's population is either stagnant or in decline. In New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, I hear that immigrant congregations (e.g., Koreans) are experiencing big growth whilst many of the general population kingdom halls are finding it hard to keep attendance up.

thats why they have so much of a concentrated effort at preaching in african and spanish territories around the world. there is alot of growth! the only thing is that there's not alot of ??money to be made. although they will still get the herds of sheep to band together to build a kingdom hall. the catholic influence there is quite strong so i imagine they make a customary donation everytime they attend. id say the western countries are pretty much stagnant if not slightly down. they are going after the low paying high volume with the hispanic and african population. the money streams in nonetheless.
