yes, I really enjoyed the whole "getting dressed up" routine. Esp. when I had a meeting part.

I do not miss coming home from work on a cold winter day, tired, already dressed up, having to cook dinner, get kids ready for the meeting, and changing my clothes into "sister wear." I absolutely hated putting on panty hose!

Towards the end of my stint as a JW, I made no effort in my dress and normally I am a bit of a fashionista.

I wear dresses, skirts, dress pants, etc. for work, so I still do have the whole dressy thing going on. But I like to wear clothes that fit nice and look pretty because I WANT TO, not because the Watchtower dictates that I have to.

No way! I was counseled on my very low-cut blouses ,that were "distracting" to the brothers. Which I thought were fairly conservative . Now I can totally be less inhibited ,in respect to my attire ..And truthfully ,its a non issue among peers,or for that matter a common strange...Funny how women are objectified...And made accountable for the lack of self control, in the male counter-parts of the org...

I personally like fashion when it comes to suits(not a fan of tuxedos), every now and then.

I would like to walk around like scott from the kardashians, having nice business attire on for no reason at all.

The thing is, I would rather get dressed in a $500.00 suit to pick up a gallon of milk, then to go to a meeting at the 'KH'.

I no longer have any occasion to dress up. Since leaving the witlesses, I did improve my casual clothes, going from the cheap crap you find at Crap Mart to nicer clothing from L.L.Bean (which will probably hold up for many years, a good thing now that clothing prices are about to take off). These range from casual to something that is a little dressier but still can be laundered and is "business casual".

As for the suits, I don't miss them. Having to wear the damn things just to attend the Kingdumb Hell is a complete waste of time, and I never liked the idea of dressing up in 98 o heat and going in field circus all day. If I had any real occasion to dress up, I would rather spend $1,000 on a couple of really good suits than have all those crap suits that are tacky looking and worn out.

Now being 3 years out, I really do miss dressing up. On the other hand.. as a 'sister' what I realize is the dresses/outfits that we wore, now looking back just had something about them.. something 'cult-ish'. I think because we had to dress for 3 meetings a week AND service we had to have SO much dress clothes that they had to be more affordable.. so they ended up more... 'eh'. I really do miss that feeling of being 'pretty' and having my necklance and earings matching my dress and pretty shoes. If i dress up now, its just to be a little sluttier (oops!) and party. There is none of that 'pretty' just like 'easter' maybe dressing up. :(

When you've been a witness you're used to a wardrobe of always having 15 dresses and 10 skirts and 20 dress shoes. You come away with lots of just casual stuff now. I need to join a cult to feel pretty again!

Bethel cured me of liking the "dressing up" game. Here was my routine.

Wake up, get dressed in a suit, go to breakfast

Go to locker room, get dressed in work clothes, go to work

Go to locker room, get dressed in suit, go to lunch

Go to locker room, get dressed in work clothes, go to work

Go to locker room, get dressed in suit and go to scheduled theocratic even (Monday WT, Tuesday Bookstudy, Wednesday NIGHT OFF (but personal study), Thursday, Meeting, Friday Bethel Entrants school, Satuday Service, Sunday Meeting.

It gets old. And there would always be the random bethelite that would walk around the locker room naked and hairy. There was one that would always come up to me, put his leg up on the locker room bench, and try to talk to me while I avoided trying to look at his nasty swampy parts.

Funny thing, being at the hall helped shaped my sense of fashion in dressing up. I was 19 when I was introduced to the JW and was a bit of a tomboy (only girl of 5 brothers). If I did wear a skirt or a dress, it wasn't up to par with JW standards of dress (ultra short mini skirts and form fitting dresses with splits ). After a while, I was able find my niche in being fashionably, yet conservatively dressed.

I still enjoy dressing up every now and then, but mainly do it if the occasion calls for it.
