I asked a simple question on the internet site Yelp. Anyone can post a review and rating of local travel, food, entertainment, events and what's on your mind. I asked a simple question on the forum and the responses were pretty mean and nasty. Here is the question I asked :

Why are food portions getting smaller while prices increase?

The fish sandwich at ======= is so small that you need to open up the bread to see the fish.I counted around 8 fries at ===== 99 cent meal. Potato chip bags are always half full.Every place you go gives you less but charges you more.

Here were somes uncalled- for responses from people who chose to provoke and insult for no reason :

maybe you should eat less..........it's not shrinking portions but you have a bigger stomach..........sounds like you got fatter.............it takes more food to feed your girth.

I think it's people that think being mean is funny. It's also a tendency to not think about what you are saying when writing on the internet. People forget that they are actually talking to other "real" people.

The internet allows people to say what they really feel, allows their true personality to come out because of the anonymous nature of it.

There are no repercussions for being the asshole that you always have been but could never be in public because it would land your sorry ass in the hospital.

I am an admin and moderator on a few Martial Arts websites and you'd think that MA would know better right? Wrong, they are the worse !!

Rude, mean, cruel, obnoxious because they CAN be with no repercussions.

I learned a long time ago, not to take forums personal. I think of them ALL as a form of a Joke in Society. As we allow people we would not even speak to in person, to speak to us and affect our emotions. So, I just come on and speak in a less personal touch and see ALL comments with a 'who gives a crap' feeling. Not to say that what people might not have value, but if you at least approach them all with a 'This is Bull Shit' feeling, if you end up finding a pearl of wisdom in the pile of crap. It is a pleasant surprise and makes for a better day.

I would never be ignorant to say, 'Words can not hurt!' As they do, but are the words hurting more for what they say or how we read them. I could not count how many times I watched someone get upset over a comment, that I read in a different tone and did not see it that way. Perhaps, we all read with a level of insecurity and emotions, that only surface the most in conflict and negative moments on forums.

As a word of advice, an advice this is hard to follow (seen most people ignore it). Leave a board that is making you uncomfortable, or at the least, cut but in your own personal particaption. At least, until you can come to terms with the issues and not take things so personal or serious. The world of the internet, is a whole new ball game of emotional damage and hits.

    Good luck!

You set yourself as a dart-board,... and then wonder why people throw darts.

Answer this question for me. Why are many public restrooms unclean?

    Taming the Tongue

1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

    Blessings in Christ,

    Stephen
