... well, in addition to condoms being bad, now the Pope says lawyers who work on divorce cases are doing something bad.

Poor old guy; he should retire, but he really believes and will likely die in harness or become so decrepit that he is no longer capable and will be replaced.

However, at least JW's don't corner the market in saying stupid things!

The clothing he wears could feed hundreds in Africa/Asia. If he were assasinated tommorow, I wouldn't be surprised nor disappointed.

As a matter of fact, throw the entire clergy in the same basket.

I have great respect for this Pope.
Never heard about the condom ban or the divorce lawyer thing.
But even if it's true, Cahtolics do not follow blindly, they do what they think is right for their own situation.
And at least the Catholic church does a lot to help poor countries and people, they have hospitals and charities...
I like this Pope, great man, don't insult him.

    The view of religious fundamentalists:

If everyone did everything exactly the way I, [ahem] the bible, says, we would have a paradise! Now why doesn’t everyone help and do what I, [ahem] the bible, says?

I said stop doing that! Look! Now you’re forcing me to take action to save your soul! Hold still while I punish, [ahem] help you!

I agree that the Pope is a bit of a questionable figure, but compared with most of his predecessors, he's a good man. I don't think he really has much influence anymore, though.

And at least the Catholic church does a lot to help poor countries and people, they have hospitals and charities...
This is the one thing I find praiseworthy enough to ignore the bizarre things in today's Catholic Church. In predominantly Catholic countries, the church is doing a HUGE lot of work for less fortunate human beings, regardless of their religious convictions.

The JWs as an organisation, of course, don't lift a fscking finger. So, give me a senile man with a funny hat and weird ideas of morality any day, if the alternative is a group of apocalyptic nuts whose ideas of "charity" can be summed up with the words "Watchtower" and "Awake!".

    Hi Bad-man,

Yes, the Pope has gone and done it now, discouraging secular folks to cater to divorce! He's like a lunatic! He must have hatched this plan when he and Bush were together because, have you heard the latest? Here in the US we're going to spend $100,000,000.00 to see if we can't marry off a few of these single welfare moms.

    Coincidence? I think not!

    Regards,
Julie, who thinks in a side-by-side with some predecessors this Pope looks practically angelic

the Catholic church -- so much doctrine I disagree with, so much good done that I applaud!!!

Both my cousin and I have recently been the recipients of Catholic charity.

She has Stage 4, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a daughter with Oppositional Defiance Disorder and possibly Bi-polar Disorder, an ex-husband who is supposed to be responsible for all the kids' medical bills and half of court costs related to juvenile detention, but won't pay up, etc., etc.

She was baptized a Catholic and used to go to a Catholic church in the area while her parents were still alive, but is a born-again Christian now with no church affiliation as she thinks "religion" is bad, Christianity good.

Last year she was behind on her mortgage payments because of her medical bills, etc. In desperation (after pawning stuff, having to quit a waitressing job because she developped a strange skin rash, etc., etc.) she went to the Monsignor at said church. Told him her story and he wrote her a check, then and there, for 2 months worth of mortgage debt. Saved her butt.

Already I was ready to bless the Catholic church!

This past year, I, too, am having financial difficulties, as some of you know. Finally wrote a letter to the Catholic schools where my children are attending. High school gave me additional time to pay, but I still have to come up with all the $$ so that my daughter can graduate in May. Grammar school gave me an outright gift of 50% of the balance of my tuition and encouraged me to apply for financial aid from the diocese for next year.

I was absolutely stunned and gratified!!! Especially since my children have been Witness children with a Witness mom in parochial school all their lives... This meant special accomodation on many levels, usually from the religion teacher, but also with the principal who is a nun whom I refused to call "Sister" for years on the JW principle that "we don't use religious titles."

Now, I happen to LIKE this Pope, believing him to be most sincere, but I am sufficiently humbled by the way my religion and that of my children (none of whom are practicing Catholics and neither is my husband) or my cousin didn't matter in the slightest to the ones who are running Catholic Charities.

So God Bless the Roman Catholic church is all I have to say!

I actually saw tho Pope last month. He gave Christmas Mass and then came out on the balcony to evidently bless the Italian military(I dont speak Italian). Anyway he had a guy standing next to him reading along and every now and then the Pope would stall and the guy standing would point to where he left off on his speech. Personally I thought the dead Popes were more interesting as they are preserved and presented in glass caskets inside St. Peters.

I do agree though that the Catholic Church is doing a lot of good, even in my community. I attend a college run by Catholics(University of Mary), who seem very very interested in helping our community get a quality education. So far everything I have studied has been secular without even the slightest hint of moral propoganda. Good school.
