If the motive of such a lawsuit is money, clearly the target is the publishing company.
If the motive was to expose the Organization for what it really is, go after the elders alone and see whether or not the Organization would distance themselves. If they did distance themselves, can you imagine the wakeup call this would give?
If an elder was sued for wrongful death and the Society was not named as a defendant, can you imagine the potential distress this would cause the elder(s)? Would the elder(s) be told by the Society, "after reviewing the documents, the Society is not listed as a defendant, if we provide you with assistance, this could give the perception to the court that the Organization accepts responsibility for the actions of independent agents, we have to allow you to be on your own on this one"?
