1. The Doctor is qualified the Elder is not! David Reed in his book 'Blood on the Alter' mentioned something along the lines of up to 9k JW's died for refusing blood in '96 (Correct me if I'm wrong I'm going on memory).
2. Where's the proof of these statements? Who did they poll? This is the cult propoganda tactics of the 'Fallacy of over generalization'.

The statement "people rarely die from refusing a blood transfusion", is a matter of semantics. On a death certificate you will find "cause of death" as something like car crash, ulcer, fatal injury, or some disease. In that case, the elder/janitor is making his point that the technical cause of death was something before the need for a blood transfusion. However, the statement falls apart under closer analysis. Would elder/janitor say "people that have suffered severe injury or invasive surgery or lukemia rarely die after refusing blood when the doctor has used every other option"? Well, then it's time to take a count of how many have actually died from refusing blood.
What if it is 'rarely'? What if it's just one? The fact that the potential for loss of life exists as a result of one of their policies is, in itself, indefensible; as is their attempt to marginalize the devastating effects their blood policy has had in reality.
Remember that video the JW's have? Its called Transfusion Alternatives I believe. We go over it like twice a year it seems. I know theres a few statistics in there that they likely got from a doctor somewhere. But I certainly wouldn't stake my life on the statement that there are "usually" complications and problems. It's just another ploy to get us to see something their way. But I'm no doctor so I couldn't back anything up.
He said if a doctor says you have a high risk of dying if you refuse a blood transfusion, he is misleading you. He said people "rarely" die from refusing a blood transfusion.
Just because a certain medical circumstance is rare doesn't give anyone reason to question a practitioner's competence... sheesh.
Some odd logic comes out of those dubs, I swear!

For example, if we want to be technical, a patient who has bled to the point where their heart stops has died from cardiac arrest, not from refusal of blood.
I guess with that logic I could shoot someone with a gun and, once in court, plea that it was merely the bullet that was the ulimate cause of death.
