What were the brothers obsession with 'The Big A' ? They wanted it so badly (and still do)

@Ding- that is how I felt. The paradise earth can't come until Armegeddon is over with. So I wanted it to come. But there was that fear that I was not faithful enough and I may get destroyed.

But yea, the paradise earth can't come until Armageddon does.

Another reason is the fact that the followers of authoritarian groups in general are aware, on some level, that they're percieved as weirdos by everyone else. They hate being percieved as weirdos (who wouldn't?), but they are inherently afraid of not being the way they are, so that hate and fear manifests itself as hostility towards the environment (and in extreme cases the population of that environment) that percieves them as weirdos. In a group that eschews physical violence (like the WTS) the only alternative is a worldview that promises:

    A) the weirdos' "enemies" are wiped out (by someone else, which removes the burden of guilt)

    B) the (former) weirdos get to run the show afterwards

It's called vindication and a reassurance that all their sacrifice was not a waste. They're invested! Hence the smug look when they write off an irate householder, reassuring themselves that they will get their own in the end.

    This says it all

Romans 8:6 (New International Version, ©2010)

6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

JWs are governed by the flesh, not the Spirit.

The spirit of the WT is not life and peace in the Holy Spirit.

Another thing the JWs talk about with expectation is that they are "going to be rounded up right from being in field service and sent directly to concentration camps".

JWs were told that they were "going to be made to work in the fields all day long and given little to eat."

This was told even to the JW kids!

Although it was something to happen in the future, you could tell that the persecution had already happened in their minds.

They were actually LOOKING FORWARD to being sent to concentration camps, as if that would prove they were Jehovah's chosen ones!

    This is not normal thinking!

The elder who told me that we were going to be "sent working in the fields all day" is now 87 years old!

I don't think he is going to hold up well in working the fields!

Has the Watchtower come up with a new prediction yet as far as when Armageddon is coming?

    SEL-

No, they have backed off. The last idea they floated was a parallel to Noah's time frame but it never gained traction. What they always say is its 'close' and 'closer'.

    Stephen-

You have to be honest and admit you will find similar illustrations of the Second Coming/Rapture/Day of Judgement in any Evangelical Baptist or Calvary Chapel pamphlets. The Baptist minister handing out tracts in front of our local B of A bank had a graphic title about the Fires of Hell.
