How is it a "world-wide protest" if it's posted here? That's just preaching to the converted, not reaching the general public.

    Hardly a public protest.

So - Broken Promises - What do YOU do to make sure anyone you know isn't snared by the JW's?

BP... I just Googled 'world-wide protest' and this thread of Rick's is 5th on the list.

"From little acorns, large oaks grow."

    Go Rick!

Well at least you got out of the Jiffy Lube parking lot or wherever those first "worldwide protest" pictures were from...

RULES & REGULATIONS Points taken. Ouch!

I can take protesting but for me bottom line questions are How effective is it in helping JWs to think calmly and rationally about their beliefs? and how counterproductive is it in that these kinds of public protests appear to convince JWs that they're being persecuted so they conclude even more than before that they must have the "truth".

I cannot take people who protest who inveigle their religious agenda into the protest such as Christian groups who relish the opportunity to criticise the JWs anyway - and who offer cheap solace ("Hey, leave the witnesses and fellowship with us where you'll really find Christ").

That's what gets me. Every street corner crackpot religious group will swear "Christ is the answer" - as if that's the solution to helping people in the Jws and as if the JWs are the worst religious group in the world. As I said, offering "Christ" to the JWs is like offering a new mate to someone who is going through a difficult marriage. The timing sucks and it's hardly likely to be effective in reaching the distressed spouse - to drive the analogy further.

I admire your zeal Rick and I hope that something more comes of it.

    baby steps...

Not sure how I feel about this thread, seems to be some hostility towards Rick and I am not sure why...

I don't know how much success these methods will achieve but it is something that is making the public aware, which is far more than most of us do.

I don't know if it will even register with the JW's at the congregational level.

I think Ricks goal isn't to even speak to JWs. I think it's more of bringing an awareness to the general public that JWs are not what they seem to be. There are definite dangers that are not easily seen at first.

I may have misunderstood the initial post but the topic arose of using the protest to promote an alternative religious belief system (Christian-based). If this is not the case and those who were protesting were not seeking to also proselytize, I apologize for the strength of my differing views.

On the other hand, if the protest was organized by committed Christians, I stand by the strength of my views. That may explain why I have expressed strong views.

    PSacramento,

BP's posts are usually about starting a row with judgmental insults and name calling without even knowing the person. If there's a fight on the board, that poster will be there pouring on the gasoline.

    Brother Dan,

I agree. If I was going to go out and protest, it would be to get the attention of non-JW's, like government officials and others who can make a legal difference.

It's also a great way to plant seeds in the minds of those non-JW's who think the WTS is a harmless little religion.

My sign would read: THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESS'S NO BLOOD DOCTRINE KILLS CHILDREN.

It might get some to start asking questions.

And, I'd lose the "Come to Jesus!" crap. Religion is the last thing you want people going to when trying to get them out of one.

Protesting has toppled governments , and if properly organized and orchestrated protesters could could topple the relatively small Watchtower Organization. Google in Tunisia protests and happening as I am writing this post, the protest happening in Cairo Egypt.
