freetosee is right on point. CO is doing his job. It's how he makes his living. Just like you or I may be a plumber, accountant, doctor,-whatever to put food on our tables, CO works for the borg and it's his job to "encourage" and pressure dubs to do more. Its his job.

Ya, but the world was coming to an end back then. His Majesty Freddie Franz said so (when was it supposed to happen? Wasn't it October 15, 1975?) Since so many Witnesses believed that the jobs they had were going to be history within a few years (along with their Visa bills and mortgages), they were running on a wave of spiritual hysteria that had not been experienced before or since. I guess when November of '75 came knocking, we were all supposed to "thank the Lord---even for the mistake".

Times have certainly changed though. Since they have no specific date (other than "soon") and since the generation of 1914 is basically dead and buried, with the pressures of trying to keep a roof over your family's head and providing them the basics of life (no easy feat for the vast majority of Dubs who have no education beyond high school), then the average Witness does not have that 'sense of urgency' that the goons at the top are still trying to prop up like a dead horse. They know from seeing what's happened to their own parents and grandparents that it's maybe not such a good idea to live your life as though The End will come in your life-time and the overwhelming number will just ignore this dumb-assed suggestion that they all "pioneer". Ya. Easy to say when you don't even hold a real frigging job.

During a recent meeting with the CO, one over-eager brother that just moved to our hall spoke up and said, "Last year in our old hall, all the elders, servants, and their families auxiliary pioneered one month." With the special arrangement, I was expecting the CO to say, "Hear that Brothers? Thats sounds like a good idea!" To my surprise, he said in a dry, unenthusiastic voice, "That's nice but we have our own unique set of circumstances in this hall so don't get your hopes up."

I guess I didn't make it clear that times were different back then, that's why I said it was pre-1975. Unless you lived that time as an adult, it is hard to imagine how pushed everyone was. After all if you started pioneering, 1970, it was really for only 5 years and we'd all be in the paradise..............wrong. I doubt there will be the same response this April considering that vacation pioneering for one month back then was still for 100 hours (2 weeks...75 hours) and the WTS has lowered the hour requirements because people don't have the same motivation today.

2011, April - 30 hours

Perhaps they will come out with the same pay to the people who worked one hour as the people who worked twelve hours. (Matthew 20)

I saw somebody said the the CO is doing his job, I never thought of it that way. Do they get paid or is it just an allowance like Bethel? If so how much? Just curious. I know some of the friends hand the CO a envelope with some cash, have you heard of that?

I don't know if they get a bethel allowance. In this country (USA) they do get apt with all utilities paid for by circuit, society car usually no more than 2 yrs old expenses paid for by circuit, (one time while serving my old congo CO car was due service and he just turned the bill into our congo, not the circuit, it was a couple hundred), medical, dental, CO would turn his grocery bill into congo, we had one CO who required that his circuit provided apt had a extra bedroom for his mother. I'm sure their green handshakes provided them with more cash than 90% of the pioneers. So, yes, they get provided all the things we have to earn cash for to buy.

An elder in my parents cong, was pioneering & only had enough time to work 2 days a week and no time with his family (he had a family - wife & 2 children) and all he did was moan they couldnt afford things and took handouts from people in the hall - inc my paprents, my mam kept buying bags of shopping etc for them, took them away on hol & paid for everything for them (my mam & dad just get by as it is and both work). I was so mad when I found out & I told her either he needed to work properly or the wife should work if this is how they want to live, anyway bit back my mam let slip that the elders wife had told her he was coming of pioneering to work more & spend time with his family as it was causing to much trouble at home - idiot!!
