If The Watchtower discourages Greek language study, why did they publish the KIT?

If The Watchtower discourages the study of Biblical Languages, then why did they publish TWICE, in 1969 and 1985. The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures?

Would this not actually encourage the study of the greek language?

NO!!! They learned greek FOR us so that we don't have to be bothered by it. Wasn't that loving of them?

I think they just wanted to sell another book and look scholarly.

The interlinear side of the KIT doesn't match the NWT side in key places.

But it doesn't matter.

JWs believe what the WTS tells them the Bible means even when the Bible actually says something quite different.

Discouraging the study of Biblical languages is "new light".

Back in the pre-internet days, they were full of swagger, confident that JWs were lazy and wouldn't take the time to really dig into the original languages and see the egregious mistranslations that pepper the NWT. And, up until the 1990's, it would taken hundreds of hours of effort.

Now anybody who can walk to the local library and type "google" into a web browser can instatntly get dozens if not hundreds of alternate opinions on translations of Greek and Hebrew. This is "threatening" to the WTS, so they put the kibosh on "learning Biblical languages" to encourages the JWs to be as lazy as they expected them to be.

There was an earlier interlinear translation (before the KIT) that was given to the WTBTS by a non-witness bible scholar. His widow apparantly assumed they would carry on the work of publishing it - after all, they were a "bible and tract society", right? Sorry, have forgotten the authors name - some scholar here will probably remember it.

The KIT was a deliberate modification of the earlier work to bring it into line with the New World Translation in places where the two differred.

The WTBTS NEVER had (before, during, and after Freddy) the scholarship to actually make their own interlinear.

You're probably thinking of Benjamin Wilson's Emphatic Diaglott.

Although he wasn't a JW and disagreed with the WTS in many areas, the WTS the fact that he used the name Jehovah.

More proof that Babylon the Great is evil unless the WTS likes something they do.

The KIT is not for studying Greek. It's for showing the original Greek words "side by side" with their perspective transations for the Greatest Bible Ever Made... The New World Translation!
