Slightly off topic, but that's one butt-ugly building. Some of the assembly halls / "education centers" I've seen look very nice

The center could generate $264 million in revenues over a five-year period, with the added benefit of more than $18.4 million in new sales tax revenues for the local area, church spokesman Bill Sims said.

With each person spending an estimated $66 per day, there will be a total annual revenue of $52.8 million, Sims said. With a sales tax of 7 percent, the total annual sales tax collections will be about $3.7 million with a five-year total sales tax projection of $18.5 million.

Officials project there will be about 40 two-day events held at the center annually with an estimated total attendance of 160,000 visitors a year.

There is something seriously wrong with their calculations. 160,000 attendees per year spending $66 each per day = $10,560,000 for the year then multiplied by five years = $52.8 million revenue. But they state that the $52.8 million is for one year, not five years and then gone ahead and multiplied that by 5 again (which totals 264 million).

Note also that they say the center will generate this revenue which means they would have included the initial building costs, the income (donations) that they would recieve, the running costs of the centre such as power ect and the spending an individual would make on such things as food, petrol etc. and then they have broken that down to $66 per individual per day.

Much Witness architecture reminds me of Albert Speers' Nazi creations. These are people who display plastic flowers in Brooklyn Heights. It is interesting how one's lack of vision is reflected in the art with which one surrounds oneself. I cried when the World Trade Center went up. It stole the glory of the Empire State Building. My favorite modern building is the Chrysler Building, art deco. There are some nice Beaux Arts bldgs. too. Off-topic.

I am certain the zoning or planning board knows this is hype. They must review all sorts of proposals with glowing revenue projections. I wonder if the statement is more for internal consumption.

Funny how they neglected to disclose the outright ban on people utilizing the services of restaurants etc in the community during their conventions.

It isn't going to generate that much income for the community, not even close.

I think they should have to show their financials for similar structures so the municipality knows what they're in for. Once you let the JWs build, you'll never get rid of them.

The $264,000,000 goes right to WT HQ.What bs are they saying.Take your local Kingdom Assembly Hall, all paid for by the locals, buildt by the locals, reno by the locals, maintained by the locals.AND PAY RENT TO THE WBTS FOR LOCAL ASSEMBLIES.

They are very good at twisting things when it comes to money. This 3k hall will it really be buildt by outsiders or by locals(JW'S) who will claim tax deductions for their over priced work.
