This is a pre-school nursery in my local area. Some of the staff are discussing how to handle Jehovahs Witness parents and their pre-school children. There is a lot of common sense here but one poster stood out to me for all the wrong reasons :(

I don't want to skew your perception so if you'd like to read the discussion and post your thoughts here that would be great. Don't worry, it's less than 2 pages which is nothing by JWN standards!

I hate to support the Dubs but I feel like holidays should be a family and community event and that practicing them at school is a huge waste of time (and taxpayer $$$) that could be better spent actually educating kids. If I could say no to ALL holidays at school, I would, though I realize that would be an uphill battle here in the USA.

I grew up worldly, and the next best thing other than openin' gifts on christmas mornin' with family

was sharing part of that celebration with your schoolmates just before we let out for the holiday

believe it or not that's how children develope their social skills by interacting with others in different

situations. I know quite a few Witness kids who have had a hard time as adults when it comes to socializing

beyond the Kingdom Hall, some of them tend to go to far off in the wrong direction, because during these

times in class they are taken out and put somewhere off to themselves. On top of that they are encouraged

to only socialize with people who believe what they believe ( JW's ). that is not how the real world operates

JW children are brought up in a bubble

Wasblind's comments are very similar to the comments I made regarding birthdays in the "questions you never got answered" thread.

The WTS uses holidays and birthdays as a way of isolating JWs and giving them a sense of superiority and persecution.

It's also an easily measured, legalistic test of loyalty to the organization.

Mad Sweeney, My daughter's preschool does not celebrate any holidays because of religious tolerance. I don't think it is as much of an uphill battle as you might think.

I think it is a terrible loss that we have no more holidays in the schools in my area.

I think it was perfectly fair as it was when I was a kid: If you don't want to celebrate a holiday at school because of your religion you can particiapate in some other activity.

It's so sad that EVERYTHING has been scrubbed now. culture is important.

*sigh* Tis true. Political correctness. We don't want to offend people.

Remember to say, "Happy Holidays," instead of "Merry Christmas."

" My daughter's preschool does not celebrate any holidays because of religious tolerance. "

I have to disagree with you there garyneal, that's not tolerance at all, tolerance is allowing

something even if you don't agree with it. Even though they may celebrate on a personal level

they don't allow it at your child's preschool cause someone else may not be tolerant of it.

I see your point, was blind, I was just recalling what the Vice Principle said during parent orientation. I'm not sure if he said that 'religious tolerance' was the reason or not but he did indicate that it had to do with respect for all religions. Something like that.
