I actually prefer to see "other" cults discussed by Dr. Phil. That way, if I mention watching the show to a JW, it isn't targeting the group, and the Apostateā¢ red-alert siren doesn't go off in their brains. It opens the discussion to specific behaviour relevant to the group that is being highlighted. It takes a little longer for the JW to connect the dots, but it's far more effective for them to make those connections on their own than it is for someone to carpet bomb them with facts that will trigger thought-stopping cult tactics.
Watch "Dr. Phil" on Wednesday

Dr. Phil is as far from real as one can get. The show is clearly marked as enterntaiment. Real change involves a lot more than an one hour show. His self adulation is creepy. Still, his show is watched by many people. Hopefully, he will focus on the features that apply to all cults. I wish someone would rename cults. Its perjorative aspect makes many people wary. I know the Witnesses are definitely a cult but I don't like using the term.
I'm certain it hurts active Witnesses to hear the word cult used. It must turn people off who would otherwise be receptive. Dr. Phil focuses on sensational aspects. If he doesn't focus on this one group, the show might be educational. Denial is a very strong force. I know I am in denial about some aspects of my life. Even when you know you are denying, it remains a powerful force.

It appears to be related to this group, who's website has shut down.

One of the high trinity of creepiness given to us by Oprah...
Rachel Ray, Suze Orman, and Dr. Phil.

The only thing most brainwashed JWs listen to is JW literature w2/15/1994 p3-4 had what should have been a very eye-opening description of what a cult is. It described the WTS to a tee and the next article went on to deny the reality that should be obvious to every JW. The average JW is right out of 1984, in that they brainwash themselves and that is the nastiest type of brainwashing. It's very difficult to get through, because the people don't perceive any problem with their mentality and any attempt to "fix" them only offends them, because you're pointing out a problem they don't admit they have. You're the "unbeliever" or the "apostate", so you're the one who needs fixed. In their minds, outsiders calling JWs a cult is like the pot calling the snowflake "black".

Well said. Dr Phil's main "methods" of bringing about behaviour change is ambushing an unsuspecting person on his TV show and shaming and hectoring them into submission.
My good friend once said Dr Phil should be re-named Dr Hector - because that's what he does.

I would have been a lot more impressed if it had dissolved into a total naked orgy at the end... Or then again looking at some of those people... Maybe not...
