In 2008, Watchtower flipped their latest doctrine on "generation" in the Bible to mean "anointed generation" instead of "wicked generation." That's 180 degrees in change. It could have opened many eyes. The anti-college pressure could also have gone over the top for most younger people (and parents) by somewhere after 2004-2005 and we are seeing fallout from that.

DanaBug I think a lot of young people leave because they are tired of all the rules. Once they get all of the partying out of their systems they might feel guilty and return. There is a big difference between those folks and people who leave because they see through all the lies and don't believe it anymore. The awakened ones rarely return and if they do from what I've seen they suffer mental and physical problems as a result of trying to live a double life.

So many of the younger ones are exposed to a lot more technology. They're brilliant. I've noticed many of the young ones are no longer "double-lifers," they're just pretty much fed up! I've done my share of "corrupting" some of the teens in my area by sending hilarious links to the KingdomHallofJWs channel on youtube and that's really all it takes. Once you get an absorbing mind on a youtube vid, they start clicking the related links and the rest is history. Funny thing is, I count my time doing this if they're not yet baptized lol!
A lot of people, I'd GUESS under 35, are also more open to the idea of evolution. I think it is very well presented in high school and early college courses. If a JW kid goes for a business major, they still have to take a few science electives and the few I've talked to are totally sold on the theory now. Once they think outside the box, returning to the fluorescent-lit, windowless tank twice a week, makes the Kool-Aid unpalatable--worse than eating an Oreo after swigging a shot of NyQuil. That's what happened to me, anyway.

resistance is futile you wil be assimilated.you will join the collective.seriously tho. i'm in my mid 30's i have always had doubts etc. thats a different thread. but what really got me is when i got pissed at a kh/cong got bitter and then i allowed myself to look at everything taught from an unbiased view or should i say from the other side of the argument the one point that hit home and prooved it was the dates of 1914 and 1919. of course then you put beth sarim in the mix and everything ive read on that . i mean wiki says everything and you can cross check usually everything from there , its all over the web now. i mean how can they explain rutherford i mean if that clown showed up now theted string him up. before him they were a little wierd but he took them to a whole new level. oh ya i really do love attention! lol heehee

Iquit,
That was me! I got kicked out because of the rules. But when I decided to finally make a decision, I stumbled across an ex-JW story on the BBC website which led me to the SilentLambs website. And it was all downhill from there! I'd be interested to see how many have left because of the doctrine changes as opposed to how many just get kicked out. And I'd really like to know how many of the ones kicked out happen to find something that opens their eyes. Has anyone done that? It'd be cool to have an anonymous survey through the ex-JW sites.

Welcome to the board, jeckle!
i mean wiki says everything and you can cross check usually everything from there , its all over the web now.
I was surprised at all the info on the wiki page. Wasn't there a recent reference to Wiki by the WT about how inaccurate it is? Lol!

I feel the same way. Granted I am basing this on my small view of the org. I wonder if some one can mine the data to determine if this is actually true. Like OTWO said, some things have lead up to this. I think the recent generation overlapping change and now the policy that you could be removed as a elder/ms for attending college has even some hardcore JWs thinking. I have been conscious for a few years now, and I have noticed recently even my father at least privately with his family questioning the college change. That would have never happened a few years ago. Maybe with the economy the way its is, and the fact that college graduates have a lower unemployment rate then everyone else has got him thinking. That change had interesting timing. I think the Watchtower mags will reflect the attitudes going on behind the scenes in the org. Lately we have been warned alot to follow the fds, if you read between the lines, maybe alot of people are not doing that.

LOL @ jeckle!
I love the 'blah blah blah' and 'yada yada yada' statements. They are so true about what crap spews from Botchtower.
Well, in the summer of 2009 my Dad's CO said "The young ones are leaving in droves." My reaction: BONUS! Does that help with proof?
Another point that may be of use is the number of new sign-ups on JWN here. And how many hits this website gets as well as others like
JWFacts, Freeminds, and Watchtower Documents, etc.
