Cheeze...I'm sorry...but I'm going to offend you right now. You are such a Christian in waiting. I love you, dude.

Doesn't offend me in the least, Dan. Somebody just needs to remove the Bible contradictions and supply a great deal of evidence, then I'm all JC's!

Until then, I have some totally unsubstantiated personal philosophy to play with.

There's really no contradiction with this, especially if you read the entire chapter 12 of Matthew. This is when the Pharisees accused or one might say slandered Jesus as being an agent of Beelzebul the prince of the demons. Jesus knew their intentions, and he refuted them thoroughly. After that he gave them a fair warning that they need to be careful with their words and actions as they will be held accountable. Verse 42 of Mark 9 is in harmony with chapter 12 of Matthew as it talks about one who stumbles a believer would be better off with a millstone tied around their neck and dumped in the sea.

Mark 9:38, 39 is something I've noticed the WT purposely avoids, and with good reason. Verses 33-36 talks about Jesus' disciples arguing amongst themselves as to who was the greatest. Jesus reasoned with them to correct that way of thinking, admonishing them to be humble and to be servile. Verses 38-41, contain the text in question, and again Jesus is correcting the way the disciples viewed themselves. True, they were the disciples of the Messiah, which was truly something, however they should still have a modest view of themselves and others. Verse 41 states, "if anyone gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward." The WT lacks a modest view of themselves and its evident in how they slander any other Christian church or group not associated with JWs. If they were truly to apply this text, they wouldn't encourage elders to spy on former JWs to see whether or not they've joined a church, or label every other religion as Babylon the Great. They've set themselves up as judges and slave drivers, as opposed to humble servants of Christ.

Cheeze, I'm gonna PM you with a prospect. It has the option of changing my life, both of our lives, or neither of our lives! :-)

    Check it in 5 mins.

If I was a Bible-thumping preacher I'd use one verse this week and preach hellfire and brimstone...

And then next week - I'd use the other verse and preach hellfire and brimstone...

But remember - God is Love!

Hmmmm... I don't see the problem... or dichotomy, dear Sab (peace to you!).

The man driving out the demons showed himself not only to not be against my Lord, but FOR him... by his works. Unlike the Apostles (who were fighting over things like who would sit where in the kingdom), this man realized that all he had to do was invoke my Lord's name and he could free people from demons! He didn't even have to be an apostle... or even walk with Christ! By this, you can see where HIS heart truly was... helping others... and in so doing, he was showing himself as being "with" Christ. Unlike [the Pharisees], who showed themselves to be blatantly against my Lord and thus NOT "with" him.

The difference is that the Pharisees were actively in opposition to (and thus, against) my Lord, whereas the man, although not a part of my Lord's intimate group, certainly was "for" what my Lord was for: setting people free from their burdens.

Surely, there are more... ummmm... "real" contradictions in the Bible that cause you "serious" concern. You know, like my Lord teaching forgiveness... yet, "Elijah" calling out she-bears to kill children? Now, THAT one I had to ask about. Praise JAH, it was a Hebrew "wives tale" used to keep children... and others... "in line" (i.e., don't mess with someone who presents as a prophet as they might call down evil on you). Truth is, while he may be sent to give a warning, a TRUE prophet of the Most Holy One of Israel wouldn't call down evil on anyone... certainly not on his own behalf.

    Again, peace to you!

    A slave of Christ,

Sab, do you see the difference? One is talking about someon that is supportive of Christianity, and in the other account he is talking to those that oppose the message? It is a statement to 2 different types of people.

Sorry dan, I don't have time to respond to your posts, allthough I am very interested to do so. When I have time I will come back to this thread.

    Carry on all :)
