I agree with Mindmelda, it is a total lack of understanding of child development to make a child sit this long. When I was a JW I didn't want them to hate the kingdom hall so I tried to meet their age appropriate needs while they were there. A special bag of quiet things they enjoy really helps and sometimes they just needed a break outside or a snack. BTW I did call CPS on a couple from our hall after watching them abuse 3 children ages newborn to 4. They took out all their frustrations on the 4 year old little boy and when I watched them dislocate his shoulder for the second time, I made a call. People commented how they were treating the kids better for some reason????? NMKA

One elder pioneer used to tell my mom "Take them out of field service before they get sick of it." In other words, don't wait until the kid starts becoming fussy and cranky to take them out of the ministry. He was so right! Except he probably didn't know that kids are sick of it about 2 minutes into field service.

hell... i could not sit through the meetings -- and I was a 30 something elder.
Might explain why I volunteered for attendant duties or food service duties at conventions. When I no longer was allowed those things, I went nuts.

My childhood thoughts during a meeting one Sunday in the '70's:
Jehovah's messy kingdom is going to destroy everyone who are goats.
Where are worldly people's horns?
zzzzzzzzzz
Jehovah has a messy kingdom.
My room is messy, too.
There are shoes on the floor and clothes, too.
What's on Jehovah's bedroom floor?
My shoes look old.
I want new shoes.

Oftentimes when I am sitting in a meeting, I would look at the lights in the ceiling above the speaker and make triangles out of them. Just connect the lights in many ways to make different size triangles.

That letter is amazing, why not have Sunday schools or at least something age related for the children. I just do not get it. It is like they want the kids to be abused. It truly makes no sense when they could make meetings enjoyable for everyone including the children.

Broken Promises
Back in the 40s my mother helped run a small Sunday-school-type program at her Kingdom Hall. The little ones in the cong were taught in a small room separate from the adult JWs.
When the CO found out, he demanded that it be stopped immediately.
So it was attempted, but the powers that be didn't want it.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT- No, you're not seeing it wrong. You pegged it correctly. I like the comparison you make with younger people having lived less hours and how they can't focus as long or sit as long as adults. Very true . Heck- I even had trouble sitting for 2 hours at meetings as an adult into my 40's ! The meetings were so boring I'd start falling asleeep snoring then drop my books on the floor. That got me some evil stares from some of the older ones once I woke up ! I just smiled and winked at them nodding off again
