OK I was just blown away when I heard this today while driving, at first I thought it was the some old same old but then it went on and it seems like it is on a different level.
The subheading is "Guard Your heart by exercising self-control. On page 27 par 17 it says "One way a person could wonder into the foolish course of the "young man in want of heart" is by aimlessly flipping though television channels or surfing the Internet. Whether intentionally or not, he might chance upon sexually stimulating scenes. He could gradually develop the unclean habit of viewing pornography, with devastating consequences to his conscience and his relations with God. It could involve his very life."
It than says in par 18 "Of course, we can and should exercise self-control by taking immediate action if we are confronted with a provocative image. But how much better if we avoid the situation in the first place. Setting appropriate safeguards and adhering to them involve the exercise of self-control.
Here is where it gets strange and bizarre at least to me it does. It goes on to say "For example, keeping the computer in an open area can serve as a protection. Some find it best to use the computer or watch television only when other are present. Other have decided not to have access to the Internet."
When they said that I was like so blown away. They are not talking about children here they are talking about adult members of the religion and having the computer in the open and not watching TV by yourself because you might not be able to resist temptation? Seriously they have to tell adults this. I was thinking who is in this religion that is so out of control? If adult member of this religion have to have this spelled out to them then Jehovah help us. No wonder there is such a problem with child molesters in the halls. Seriously think about it.
I mean the internet is everywhere now. It is on cell phones, everyone everywhere asks for your email address. Can you imagine being asked for your email address at Bed Bath and Beyond or some such store and you saying well my religion believes that the internet is too dangerous for its member to use because we might go to pornographic web sites and not be able to control ourselves so we decided as a family not to have it. Oh please. There is more to it than this, they are losing the war. I truly believe that the internet is scaring the heck out of them. Too many people are coming to this sight or finding out about 607-587 BCE or the blood issue all from the dreaded internet.
OK I have been on the internet for over 12 years and only once have I come across a pornographic sight. I was in a college course and it popped up when I hit the wrong sight. I am woman so maybe that is why it did not turn me on because I do not have the uncontrollable male sex drive but I quickly got out of it. That is it in all the years I have been on the internet.
They are so micromanaging adults in this religion. This article was in the Watchtower for JW's only. It is for elders and MS's not the public. If elder and MS have so little control over their impulses Jehovah help this religion.
