And you can bet every single convention will have "an experience" on Sunday afternoon about someone who...........

........turned down a scholarship at a prestigeous university (for which they did not apply) but still were offered a job earning 3000Euro/MO but could not accept if they were to continue to pioneer...... Hopefully someone will assist them with money to purchase gasoline for the trip home.

Another idiotic campaign to keep the flock busy, for no other purpose than to keep them busy.

I'll try to upload a pdf if it is wanted , but it really is tedious same again material.

I don't really know why the WTBTS wants the public to go to the assemblies anyway - they are hardly "public friendly" ( who wants to sit through a symposium on Lamentations or numerous items on why JWs should be pioneering or trusting the faithful slave? ) Not to mention the fact that you can't even get a drink or a bag of crisps and have to spend ages queing for the toilet. I reckon they would tend to put off a curious member of the public rather than encourage them.

I hated doing this as some of you... anyone in my area would have to travel 2 1/2 hours away! Ya right?!

It just gives the put-upon 30-hour April "pioneeers" an easy was to get in time... less preaching, more handouts after a five-second "here's an invitation; see ya" presentation

In this area jws have to travel 100 miles to the convention. Are they supposed to hand out fliers to the public in that area to travel 100 miles?

They always love to give these "experiences" at the concluding talk about how this "worldly individual" was given a tract and are here now and plan on studying or whatever. Honestly, I want to know exactly how effective is the tract work? I can't think of a single instance where someone was like "wow, I am going to totally waste vacation time and money on this!".

Then again, I can't think of a single person in our territory who has wandered into our Kingdom Hall because somebody left a tract with them. So if they wouldn't bother going to a Kingdom Hall right down the street for an hour, why the devil would they travel 45,000 miles to listen to a 3-day lecture?

I was lucky for the majority of my JW life to have the convention about 20-30 minutes away. About a year before I left, my wife and I found it almost impossible to go for all 3 days of the convention as her health was not good, and my back would not allow me to sit all that time. So we would split up the days, which I came to found out later was frowned upon as it was not following theocratic direction. Anyway, as we were barely hanging on to go to the conventions, they announce that they are no longer having the convention at the usual place, and are having it in a place that is a TWO HOUR DRIVE EACH WAY. Not only that, they told us because our distance we should not stay at a hotel and commute, as others had an even longer commute so apparantly there werent alot of hotels in the area. I was stunned, and at the time we had an old car. So here we were faced with an additional 3 HOURS tacked on to each day of the convention, extra milage on an already old car, and if we were to disobey to spend around $200-$300 for a 3 night stay at a hotel room. I looked at my wife, and just said "Im not doing this". "I cant do this, this is simply impossible". And we never went to a convention again. I still believed everything, but just found this burden to be too much.

I can respect this. Regardless of whether you are a devout JW or a doubter, it is a burden to have to travel for a convention, especially if you have children. Some can afford it; good for them. But nobody should be ostracized if their budget or health prohibits travel.

Yeah, they are. In addition to numerous self-congrats throughout the program, they reserve the last 5 minutes of the concluding talk for a big applause finale to thank THANK THANK the governing body for this beautiful spiritual feast.
