    Picture the situation:

A JW sister, let's call her Marjorie, has a non JW father who died. She arranges for an elder to take the funeral at a crematorium and Marjorie's non-JW husband pays for a reception at a pub afterwards.

Marjorie has a disassociated son. The elder taking the funeral tells Marjorie that she needs to tell her son he is not welcome at the reception, otherise none of the JWs can attend. The son goes anyway so the elder tells Marjorie that he and the other JWs at the funeral cannot eat with a disfellowshipped person so they aren't going. Marjorie is distraught. Marjorie's husband is livid that he has paid for a reception and his wife has been put through this upset.

Way to go WT, you don't look like a cult at all.

Marjorie's son needs to be there, after all it is his grandfather who died

Her husband who is not a JW paid for the reception and if it's alright with

him for the son to be there to hell with the JW's. Marjorie has her ass tied

up in a knot for nothin'

Yep. Marjorie's son disassociated himself over 20 years ago. I guess they are especially frightened of him because he's an apostate.

That elder is a self righteous ass at the very least! He's full of **it. There have been countless other JW funerals where the DF'd/DA'd were allowed to attend (though not necessarily associate). I wonder if this elder just wanted to stick it to "Marjorie" and her family...

Quite frankly the JWs have no right to be there. The man was not a JW the reception is paid for by a non JW. They have no association to the deceased or the family.

The Son on the other hand is grandson to the deceased and son of the man paying for the meal who is head of his household. JW rules and hang ups have no place here they are being invited as a courtesy. The family would be better off without them if this is their attitude.

A JW sister, let's call her Marjorie, has a non JW father who died. She arranges for an elder to take the funeral at a crematorium

That is the root of the problem. Why is she arranging a JW funeral for her non-JW father? It is presumptious and disrepectful of her to do that. It is disrepectful to her father, it is disrespectful to her husband, and it is disrespectful to the grandson.

The funeral home director knows how to arrange a service and who could officiate in a manner consistent with the beliefs of the deceased (or lack thereof). That is what they do for a living!

The elder taking the funeral tells Marjorie that she needs to tell her son he is not welcome at the reception, otherise none of the JWs can attend.

At this point it would be appropriate to tell the arrogant hypocrite that his presence is disturbing to family members in their time of grief, therefore he is not welcome!

    The son goes anyway

Good for him! His grandfather's funeral is for the family's solace, not a command performance for the Board of Elders.
