we used to make models of Eden and the world with volcanos. We did puppet shows and quizes. I was a bad parent and couldn't face the publications. Hubby was already exiting with a vengence so he rarely did the study.

This is living in the past. People can become so obsessed with the past that they are not preparing for the present and future. This might be acceptable if one is living in the 1970s, becoming prepared for inflation and an energy crisis that might in fact repeat. But, events in the Bible are never going to happen again and will prepare people for precisely nothing.
For instance, what good does it do to prepare people for the Red Sea crossing? Nothing. Or, the entrance into the original promised land? These are mindless exercises that are not going to prepare you today. If anything that important was coming, and God was worth living under, he would instruct people at the time of what they need to do this time--what happened last time means nothing this time. Your preparation could well be as out of date as preparing for US inflation by getting into the British pound--which might have worked last time, but will crash along with the US Toilet Paper Dollar this time. Use the outdated means of preparing, you will be better off doing nothing.
