You get a one of these, but the elder on one side and a pile of shit on the other. If they balance equally then he's a "heavy". The obvious result is that no one is a "heavy" except in his own mind.

Also- certain Bethel Elders were heavys- even though their job description was less than glamourous. For some reason- they would be selected to serve on "Bethel Committees".
You could always tell when someone was trying to be a heavy- but just didn't have the juice yet.
Signs of a heavy: Scowl on face, Nice smiley face at morning worship, carry around elder's book (or- .....Branch Organization manual), taught entrants school, went on speaking assignments, conducted WT study, conducted morning worship. Usually quite full of themselves, usually had good connections in high places (we went out to eat with the Sydlicks, the Barry's are such a lovely couple, etc, etc.) Every male aspired to be a heavy.
Its really a very monastic and heirarchical organization!!!
