This is evidently the claim from Satan that fundies have been anticipating.

Then, it's only a matter of time before some outer space microbe arrives and causes an Earthwide pandemic of death, disease and famine.

i will only believe this when it has been critisized by other researchers.. quite frankly Nasa have a good track-record in terms of finding new life, and a very very poor one in terms of finding the same type of new life twice...

The heavy elements we have on Earth are the result of a prior super nova, which means there was a star system around before us. Life from that system could have seeded our solar system when it formed over 4 billion years ago.

While it is not unreasonable to think life might have arrived on Earth from the outside (or, at least, the components of life) -

I have to agree that NASA has burned itself at least once (maybe twice) on this issue.

It needs a general and credible concensus to make me tend to believe it.

It's a can of worms that Nasa doesn't want to open up.

And a shame too, in the sense that this will likely cast doubt on future work on discovery of extra-terrestrial life. Which I truly believe is out there somewhere and would be greatly pleased to see found and proven.

Never get this, EVER! I am not a Christian, but why does every time there is evidence of life elsewhere. People loss faith in God? I think what they loss faith in, is the Christian God. Which as we know is just a myth that was passed down from one myth religion to the next and not real. However, that does not mean a divine or higher power does not exist. It just means we are not as important to it, as these earthly religions teach. Meaning, we are not the center to it's universe. We are just part of it, in it, and life finds a way and spreads. Personally, I think it is awesome.
