30th Anniversary of the Free Minds Journal

Well my friend Chaton and I just finished sealing the last envelope of the 30th Anniversary issue of the Free Minds Journal. I guess it must be one of the longest cult-related Journals running. It began as the Bethel Ministries Newsletter in 1981 (a year after I left Bethel) and when we became a non-profit educational organization back in 1992 separate from my church, it was renamed the Free Minds Journal. left: Randy at 17 as a member of Associated Vans in Newport Beach, Calif., home of certified hippies, Jesus Freaks and exceedingly ornery individuals. Like the recent change in Freeminds.org, becoming more newspaper-like and allowing other viewpoints at times from evolutionists and atheists, but staying with mostly Christian themes (since the Watch Tower claims to be Christian), I did not want to be controlled, drilled, cajoled or coerced into appealing to some sponsor's idea of what I should believe or publish, or promote their pet doctrines. People need to understand HOW other people think and not remain ignorant of the views of others who are good thinkers. Being a 60s Jesus Freak, I have certain ideas that seem incompatible with my other views, but I know what I believe. However, learning never stops (til you drop). This is not a promo for subscriptions, as I now end up putting most of the information up free of charge on my website (you will see the main article in a few days, after my readers-in-print get it), but I wanted to express my thanks to the many who have helped support Free Minds, Inc. over the last 30 years. This issue was so important to me I had three different proofreaders, all professional women (Chaton is a former reporter for The Economist) look it over. Plus I had to have Barb Anderson look it over for acccuracy, and she damn near rewrote it! But that is good. I have the best women friends one can wish for! Thanks to Lee Marsh as well. The main article is a bit of a shocker to many, so I'll put part of it up with a link to the rest here in a few days. The Watch Tower is in for a world of hurt, and I believe this is just the beginning. If you've got 'em, smoke 'em. The war has just begun. Enjoy the sense of freedom. |
