What is happiness? Peace, serenity, music to calm the soul.

Happiness can mean different things to different people. For example, for one person, it may mean being in a relationship, whereas for someone else it may mean feeling you have the ability to handle whatever life throws at you.

What are your thoughts on this topic please ?

Here is one thought or idea... Happiness is what you feel when you're NOT feeling.... self doubt

    depressed
    hateful
    fearful
    worried
    unsatisfied
    bored
    grief
    shame
    guilt
    discontent
    anxious
    another thought....
Happiness is man's greatest aim in life. Tranquility and rationality are the cornerstones of happiness.

seriously, I am beginning to perceive happiness and contentment as being aware of what your lot in life is and doing everything in your ability to live the fullest to that extent. Now this doesn't mean that one shouldn't try to improve oneself, but at least try to fully understand yourself and others and discover what makes the human mind tick once you get pass all the egos, pretenses, fake-tans, lace bras, golf club memberships and other fluff.

booze and Pink Floyd helps, too.

Happiness is striving to do all we can for Jehovah's visible channel of communication on the Earth. Blessed be the faithful and discreet slave.

What a nice positive and coping thought Mrs. Jones. It's about being realistic and accepting.

You know how when you're in a room with something that smells really bad, and at first you can hardlt stand it, and then eventually you realize that you can't even smell it at all anymore? That's actually called olfactory fatigue, but whatever. Happiness is the state that you experience when things have been so bad for so long that you no longer notice how bad everything sucks.

For myself I have a little saying - Happiness is a personal decision, not a condition dependent upon circumstances, other people or things. Happiness can be had at anytime and anyplace simply by dwelling with appreciation upon Jehovah's wondrous works and ways, His magnificent dealings with the sons of men. I admit it takes really pushing the envelope if one is encountering earthquakes and tsunamis. But it can be done.

Happiness can be found in your efforts to overcome difficulties and is not conditional upon just the results. A little on the line of Viktor Frankl's idea of finding meaning in one's current experiences. Just the choice to remain positive and cheerful in tragic circumstances is a victory, the efforts to overcome evil with the good always buoys my spirits.

peace of mind, acceptance, love given and received, warmth, shelter, a full stomach, a warm bed on a Saturday morning, a spectacular summer sunset, holding your baby while she smiles and burbles at you, clean air and water, springtime, a really good curry, Guinness, graduating college, rewarding work, retiring, independence, the silent expression of love in the eyes of your spouse, teaching your child how to ride a bike, catching the big one, leaving home, coming home, a meteor shower, a hot bath, fresh sheets against naked skin, helping someone in need with no expectation of compensation, being helped, a ripe peach right off the tree, a glass of Penfolds Grange with a slice of old cheddar and a wedge of pear, walking naked on a deserted beach in the pouring rain, skinnydipping, music, finding your groove in a game, fluency of thought, knowledge, ignorance, a kitten's purr, a dog's greeting, a snifter of Lagavulun against the background of a crackling fire, teaching, learning, a good dump, a rose garden, seeing whales, a breeze off the ocean, connecting with someone, letting go but still loving and remembering, spooning, holding hands, your mother's smile and your father's strength, finding something you've lost, losing a monkey on your back, getting well, finishing what you have begun, a phone call from a long lost friend, not needing to say anything to be understood, solitude, company, being appreciated, appreciating, the aurora against the milky way ...
