So, i found out a friend of mines cousin overdosed on drugs the other. Its absolutely awful. I got a text from my mom this morning that said her friend who lives across the street from them said they had an overdose across the street. I told my mom that his cousin had died. Here was her reply "at least it wasnt you. hopefully you will realize how stupid all of your friends are." That is an unbelievable response. I replied that I never even met his cousin. She said "but you hang out with Dave and it happened over his house." First off, have some freaking sympathy you poser Christian. Second, you just insinuated that Im a drugee. Third, you just made a personal insult to all of my friends. Fourth, I dont even know the guy who did it. I understand she is mad about my choice to abandon the religion and is trying to get to me somehow. Way to be a Christian, mom. You really do your religion and God proud by insulting a person who died, insulting my friends and making wild accusations. Screw this religion. It breeds nothing but hate.
So much for being Christian

It breeds nothing but hate.
Geez, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's cousin.
After boiling this down over the last five years, I'd say the society uses misinformation and religious pride to breed prejudice. Prejudice, in turn, blocks natural empathy and, for some folks, makes a fertile ground for hate.
Doesn't sound like she hates you or your friends, but your mom effectively classifies a whole demographic of people who don't share her views and then judges them.. or prejudges them, I should say. Sad, sad thing.

I too am sorry to hear this . But Not all who call themselves Christian ARE!!!!
Try to remember it is Hearts That MY GOD examines .NOT Religions...
We can call our selves anything we like But WE have a higher Judge,
So dont get ticked at the remark, just feel sorry for the one who said it..Take Care my friend. .

While I see your point mouthy, how can I not be angry when my friends are insulted. Considering she knows most of them personally, I take great offense to that. I dont think I would be much of a friend if I didnt stick up for them when they are personally insulted.

It's Borg mentality judgmental ignorance. One day she'll come to her senses, hopefully in this life. Don't give up hope, instead have compassion for her. It's tough when our own mothers act like idiots. Mine is a JW doozy too.

SBJ Said "After boiling this down over the last five years, I'd say the society uses misinformation and religious pride to breed prejudice. Prejudice, in turn, blocks natural empathy and, for some folks, makes a fertile ground for hate."
that is a great point and would help explain why they are this way. its like how they get the citizens to put up with or be indifferent to stuff like the holocaust.

Was New Boy
I was a jerk like your mother when I was "in" The Bible sys you will know them by their love....I all starts at the top the Head Quarters... I was working on my car in the factory {bld. 1} on friday Oct. 31 1973, when all hell broke loose, the fire alarm in bld. 4 went off at about 9:30. The night watchman could find nothing. Monday we were ll coming back from lunch, I was taking passengers up the east freight elevator when we saw fire trucks behind bld. 4. There to our surprize, they were taking the stiff body of James Olsen (Bethelite) out of the bushs. Tom Combs {overseer of 4th job press} said "he MUST have done something REALLY bad to have killed himself!" Norm Brecky {overseer of the 5th floor ink room} said "I'm glad he jumped off the back of bld. 4, we don't need the publicity" --------DEAD and already judged! The Thursday before Oct. 30th I saw him on my elevator, fighting back the tears, "whats wrong?" I asked. He said "he just couldn't take in any more and left bethel a week ago,{A.W.O.L} went home---------and told his parents. They said "You are a reproach to us the family, and the organization---- and you wiil be going back!" They called Max Larsen {the factory overseer} and begged for another chance for their son. -----------Well after 2 hours in Max's office telling him what a disapointment he was to his family, he left, the loneliest person on the planet. With another chance? "well you only got 3 years 6 months left".-------- I got problems of my own, I thought.------"You will know them ----by their love"-----------I along with eveyone at bethel-- KILLED James Olsen---with our APATHY-----I can still see his face as he walked out of my elevator.

I hate to say anything bad about my mother but heres the real facts about her. I dont even remember her crying when my dad and her mother died. When I left the organization she said it would be better if I were dead. Im sick of making excuses for her. The religion only moves somebody to so much. There is a point when it flows over from just religious stupidity to it actually being her personality. With the way she has treated me, Im seriously considering cutting off communication when I move out next month. I love my mom but I just cant deal with her attitude anymore. It is breaking my heart.

Oh, how JW's devour with glee the tragedy and grief of all those who do not peddle WT publications at every opportunity. They point their hypocritical fingers at those outside the organization and just the same say, "aha! See what happens when you are not one of Jehovah's Witnesses?!?!?"
I remember a JW kid, Jeff Hardrick, who took a gun and blew his own head off up in his bedroom to escape the pressure, guilt, and abuse from his JW mother and stepfather.
I remember a JW kid, David Something . . . who drove his car out to the desert, ran a hose from exhaust pipe to window crack to escape this kind of abuse from his JW parents.
I remember Ron Raceler, a young JW, just made ministerial servant, newly engaged, who left the Kingdom Hall one night, drove down the road to a high bridge, and jumped to his death. His worldly father found him at the bottom of the rocky ravine.

I'm really sorry your friends cousin died.
Your Mom sounds exactly like mine.
And lots of JWs if you think about it. They make snarky comments about Worldlies. Who aren't up to their standard. Then turn around and tout their superior Christ-like qualities. <puke>
Your Mom is no different than many of our Mom's. Mine included.
