"Do You Think They Are Extremist Publications?" Well, Yes!

From the May 1 Watchtower, complaining about those poor misunderstood Witnesses in Russia, who are (gasp!) actually accused of being extremists! Can you imagine!

So, they present a list of publications labeled as extremist - and I took a look.....

Mankind's Search for God - read pg 369 and beyond for classic Watchtowerism: if you are any other religion, you are part of Satan's system and God will kill you. Clear enough?

What Does The Bible Really Teach? - outright deception and fraud. This book urges you to get baptized but where does it explain the threat of disfellowshipping? - perhaps runing your family? Firmly asserts the deadly blood transfusion issue and more labeling of everybody else as 'false religion'. Not extremist? Really?

Questions Young People Ask - So, the biggest fear here is drugs? or pregnancy? or crime? No, it's masturbation, with TWO CHAPTERS DEVOTED TO THE SUBJECT! Ask yourself, isn't there something sick and twisted about a bunch of old men being obsessed with a private bathroom function by young pubescent people? Over and above other serious priorities? Disgusting...

So, Jehovah's Witnesses are not extremists. I guess they have to proclaim that rather loudly because ordinary people might not come to that conclusion without a lot of help.

yeah, im not for them locking up JW's, but im all for banning the extreme aspects of the theology. it should be illegal to shun, use mind control/fear tactics, etc

Make no mistake about it, the dehumanization that JWs have towards nonJWs and those that have left JWs/WT, is on equal footing to that of hate groups.

Yes- they are extremist publications just as most witnesses and the gb are.

I agree- they break up families, and preach that all people who are not witnesses are devil worshippers who God will soon destroy.

i agree!! just look at the bible story book for children!! there are at least a half dozen pictures of graphic blood, gore and violence (cain slaying abel, men getting tentpegs rammed through their heads etc)

im all for stringin up the whole lot of blubbering goddies in their tower of solitude in brooklyn.

cowards sit back in their plush offices in nyc while good hearted people are takin the heat for their stupid cult teachings!

They are just lapping (or was it overlapping), the 'persecution' up aren't they.

What with this and the Japan earthquake the end is 'soon' (subject to overlapping)!

Only an extremist group could tell it's members they are the happiest people on earth yet many are depressed and suicidal!

I think that, while this is a high control religion, they aren't really any better or any worse than any other religion. Sure, the shunning thing sets them apart, but I think that education is the key. Whether it's converting to JWs, Mormons, or any other religion, there should be a warning label or some way for people to be educated about the risks - kind of like the warning on tobacco products. If people still want to walk into those risks knowingly, that's all on them. I do still believe in free speech and I'm not crazy about a government who says what its people can and can't read. Sorry, but you can't legislate away stupidity.

Terms like "better" and "worse" may present a false dichotomy. Religions fall on a continuum from relatively benign to dangerous to life and health.

On the continuum, JWs are much closer to the danger zone than the benign. People are beaten, go to prison, and DIE for the Watchtower rules, and they BRAG about it in their magazines. All members are subjected to unethical mind control techniques that in my opinion should be illegal in ALL countries. Freedom of mind is an international civil right. "No better or worse than any other religion"? They might be better than a few but they are much worse than most.
