Born in. Went to university, undergrad and postgrad. Completely life changing. AND wound up getting completely addicted to university. Loved it so much I never left. Now a college professor. Wouldn't trade it for the Watchtower even on my heaviest grading day. ;-P
How many went on to college after leaving the JW's?

I'm in my Junior year of my undergrad - majoring in Language Arts Education. It's one of the very best things I've ever decided to do. In fact, I'm already laying plans to continue on to pursue my Master's in Instructional Technology - and then it will be on to a PhD. I plan to continue working in academia and to go very far, you must have a PhD. I'm not sure what specific field I'll pursue that in, but it's definitely on the radar.
Also, for the last 2 1/2 years, I've been working at the college where I go to school. Again - one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I do have an additional question that is related. Seeing as how I'm about to begin my college career, I am wondering how those of you who have already been paid for it. University is especially costly, and I'm wondering if those here managed to get it all covered by student loans, or if you had to find a way to pay some out of pocket, or managed to find a way to get grants and/or scholarships for adults or how you managed it. Just curious for a bit of extra information.

Not a born in, dear CF (peace to you!), but spent 16 years in. After encouraging kids to go to university, went myself 2 years after leaving the Borg, then law school 4 years after that. Received JD in 2008. Never looked back and never will as to education. High school will get you nowhere, and even if one doesn't finish, the college/university EXPERIENCE is invaluable!
Again, peace to you!

Scholarships and student loans here. There are great resources on the internet that can help you to find available scholarships that you might qualify for. It takes time to go through all the scholarship applications, but it can make a big difference. Also, going to public universities is less expensive than private institutions.

I am 45 and I am working on my BS in Marketing Management. I did enroll when I was still in the Borg, left when I was 25. I had attended a junior college for one year, I don't really know if it affected the way I was treated, my father had been DF'd most of my growing up years. And that came with its own problems. Because I am a single mom, Pell Grant is paying for most of my schooling. I do believe our studying skills do come in handy, my GPA is 3.86.

After I left the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, I went to college often. Sometimes my kids needed a ride.

I went "in" as a teen when I went to college. I took out loans and got Pell grants. I have gone back and got a second degree (BS-hee hee) in another major.
I am a fierce advocate of post-HS education. I love learning. I love college.

After being disfellowshipped, I decided to go to college for the first time in my mid-40's. I got my BS in Marketing, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. I worked full time for 3 1/2 years while going to school fulltime. It was insane but I survived. It opened my eyes.

After I broke with the JWs, I would have liked to have gone on to do the degree course in electrical engineering. However, having to work 16 hour days on remote sites put paid to that idea!
Now that I am staring down the barrels of retirement, an engineering degree is not going to be of much use (apart from being a means of amusing yourself).
