RaustBD: While I do feel that many of the Watchtower's stances on various issues (such as the scientific theory of evolution) are problematic, I can honestly say that I'm not bothered too much.
My reply: Why would this not bother you? Most Atheists I have known have been bothered by the JW stance on this.
No the JWS do not have hell and brimstone within their doctrines as other Christian based faiths do,
they use the great destruction of Armageddon which most of mankind will be destroyed, very soon as its lamented
continuously in their Literature articles and public talks.
Before go on lauding over how pure and righteous the JWS seem or appear to be.
I'd suggest you look deeply into the doctrines of this religion with a critical mindset.
As another poster mentioned this deadly doctrine of no Blood Transfusions has killed thousands of devout JWS including many children
who parents were JWS. This is real death not some fictitious ancient theology that may or not happen in the future.
You shouldn't make passing judgments based on some JW literature peddler knocking on your door with a smile on their face.
There is allot more behind that pretentious smile, that is being intensionally hidden away to be sure.

I will admit that the hell fire doctrines of Christendom are troubling to many, including myself, at the very least many of those who believe in hell fire also belief in salvation by grace and not by works in a 'once saved, always saved' type of doctrine. Believing Jehovah's Witnesses, on the other hand, have to continually work to earn their salvation and ensure that he or she will not be destroyed at Armageddon. That's troubling even for the most devout believer.
When I first heard this I thought, "So you have been a witness for over 50 years and you are still not sure that you will make it?"

Given that people who refer to themselves as atheists normally do so because they find no evidence for god (after which doctrinal stuff is YAWN), the chance of anyone who really belonged to that group holding such a sensationally idiotic opinion and saying " maybe some of the Atheists who were driven away from God solely because of the idea of Hell will join you guys!" is... ooooo...

I think he/she may have been trying to bolster the old canard that something JW's have got right (and lets face it, there isn't much) covers over all the errors , half-truths and down right lies that make up the rest of the WT teachings.

Obviously a troll...make a statement to set a fire and run.
Why should I hold respect for that? Some Christian groups ignore the scriptures about Hell and some don't. A myth is a myth is a myth. There are 33,380 different denominations of Christianity more than a thousand of them and I'd say closer to 5,000 of them don't believe in hell. Why should JWs get respect for being one of many?
