AGuest - Shelby what is the right way (thanks, OUTLAW, great idea) if one is not going to the hall. strange i've been thinking one should probably go to this but if you aren't partaking it seems wrong --- and, i realize i'm not part of that heavenly calling --- plus i don't want to be "hounded" and need any problems with that place. not that there'd be problems.
i like Lovelylil's idea about wine/bread at home to celebrate but don't want to be jumping ahead of myself.
Thanks.
Shelby-please take care of yourself. You can have your memorial at home. I hope your recovery will speed up! And much peace to you and your family too!!!!
I "see" you, dear Sylvia (the greatest of love and peace to you!)... and will be "with" you, in spirit, dear one!
And I hear you, dear OUTLAW and Factfinder (peace to you, both!). Truly.
Greetings, dear LV101, and the greatest of love and peace to you! There are two ways, both of which are recorded:
First, individually, as the Israelites and "vast mixed company" did in the wilderness after leaving Egypt: every day. Indeed, it was by means of the manna and water from the rock-mass that their flesh was kept alive during their journey. It is the same for Israel today: man does not live by bread, alone, but by the WORD... that came forth from God. Christ is that Word, the One brought forth, and it is by means of the "leaves" from the Tree (of Life) that he is... that his Body lives. Our flesh, to some degree, yes, but certainly our spirits.
The second is when we come together as a Body. Both our Lord and Paul showed where those who gathered shared a FULL meal. Then, AFTER the meal, they shared the bread and wine. In the case of our Lord, he washed the feet of his disciples because, as he said, they had no sharing with him UNLESS he washed them. Afterward, he told them that just as he did, they should do. THEN... he gave them the bread and wine, which was left over from the meal.
In the case of Paul, his concern that some of those who came had not DISCERNED the body and blood of Christ: some, when they came, had already eaten a full meal at home so that when they arrived, they didn't want to eat/drink at all. Others would arrive practically starving and then overeat, not concerning themselves with others who should have had a portion as well. None of these were taking into account the REASON for the meal.
He was also concerned about those who risked eating and drinking judgment to themselves. The WTBTS uses this account to convince some that they are not "worthy" to eat and drink. The truth, dear one, that NO ONE is worthy; that's why it's UNDESERVED kindness. The truth, however, is that ALL ate and drank at that time. One was "unworthy", however, if one was UNCLEAN.... on the INSIDE... when they did so. This is determined by what is "IN" them... what's on the INSIDE of the "cup." In order to be "clean", then, they had to resolve whatever "judgments" of others they were bringing with them. Otherwise, they were eating and drinking judgment against themselves. Because Christ said to "STOP juding" (or be judged with the same judgment).
Are these "laws"? Are the rituals chiseled in stone? No. The Most Holy One of Israel really is NOT an exacting God... as many would have Him be. He is merciful, abundant in loving kindness, and slow to anger. What is important to HIM is that you HEAR the Son... and obey. And HE (the Son) said, "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood... you have NO life within yourselves." And "Just as I did it to you, you should do to one another also" (as to washing feet). He is much more interested in our being faith in the LEAST things... which is attributed to us as being faithful in MUCH.
If you don't have bread... or wine... use what you have. I mean, did not our Lord turn water into wine? Why could he not do that again (spiritually speaking)? The issue is not so much HOW we do it... but THAT we do it. That we at least try to obey. Neither God nor Christ are like religion, dear one. There is great leeway with them, so long as one's heart and motives are without deceit/guile.
I hope this helps and, again, I bid you ALL peace!
Your servant and a slave of Christ,
SA
Dear Sylvia --- thank you for your reply and peace and love to you. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
What concerns me is the fact that Jesus only shared the wine/bread with his disciples and, obviously, it's not something to be taken lightly since it represents life. The scripture makes it clear and the fact the Memorial is only extended to those anointed is confusing to me --- not that I put my trust in men who all seem to have a different interpretation. Thanks again for your knowledge.
Jesus only shared the wine/bread with his disciples
That's because he needed to "ratify" his covenant with them, first, dear Lil (again, the greatest of love and peace to you!). He did not grant them holy spirit, however, until after that. Then, he poured it out on ALL of his disciples at Pentecost... and since.
and, obviously, it's not something to be taken lightly since it represents life. The scriptures make it clear
Absolutely!
the fact the Memorial is only extended to those anointed is confusing to me ---
That's because (1) the WTBTS teaches that here are two (2) hopes, when there is only one, dear one, for those who make the holy ones and others in union with Christ... and (2) they utterly forget (even though Paul wrote of it) that ALL who left Egypt... Israel AND the great crowd that went with them... ate the manna and drank from the rock-mass... BOTH of which are the Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:1-5).
They also utterly overstep our Lord's words regarding his flesh and blood... that ANYONE may eat of it... and anyone who DOES will be resurrected and LIVE FOREVER... and that UNLESS one eats his flesh and drinks his blood... they have NO life within themselves. Nor are they in union with him.
They TEACH this, however, because they are fulfilling their vocation: to "SHUT UP THE KINGDOM OF THE HEAVENS BEFORE MEN." Since THEY are not going in, they try and prevent all those who wish to go in from going in. That's why my heart breaks for many here: they really can't see that where they are... utterly denying God and Christ... is the RESULT of that Organization. It is their PURPOSE... and, sadly, they have utterly succeeded as to so many. They are deceitful liars... and while many here think, "Whew! I got OUT of them and I don't need God!", they don't see that that was the "plan" all along.
Ah, well... what can you say/do? Only what you know YOU need to, right?
Again, peace to you, dear one!
YOUR servant, sister, and fellow slave of Christ,
SA
Any who receive Jesus can be born again. You can go to him, confess your sins, repent and turn away from sin, ask him to send the spirit to you and he will. Then begin your new walk in Christ. The Holy Spirit will teach you and lead you into all truth and you will KNOW that the spirit of God lives in you!
John 1:12-13
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God
If you believe in Christ's name and recieve his spirit, you have the right to partake at the memorial. Your everlasting life depends on it, whether you believe you will be in heaven or earth, YOU MUST drink Christ's blood and eat his body to be resurrected on the last day. That is because eternal life is a hope only held out for Christians. See John 6:53-56;
53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
If you have NOT recieved the spirit yet, although you asked for it, keep on asking, the Lord promises you WILL recieve it. You need to ask the Lord Jesus and he will send the spirit to you. Peace, Lilly
Sylvia --- thanks, again. Actually, I felt better after your first reply and this one is beyond helpful and do not want this exhausting you. Please rest and I promise not to ask any more questions. You are so kind and knowledgeable. I'm going to reread your posts.
