i need to ask you exjws something serious.

i have never been a jw thankfully because i have been given the ability to look before you leap.

(i'm sorry that many of you never had that chance its just that i

heard that it was a "cult" so i decided to look into it)

i posted my gf is a jw (twice by mistake sorry please delete one)

[i wasent trying to be a troll or nothing]

that is why i am here i want to know how this book can help

can plant that seed of objectivity...

who instrumental was this book in getting you to leave the org.

i have alot riding on this book how good is it and its companion book.

again i have not read it as yet but i must know how it made you feel when you still were a witness...

can these book plant that seed of doubt?

    thanks for replying.

i probally wouldent ever join that org so i

obviously would want her to leave but the mind controll thing...

    Hi, Jerome.
I understood what you meant. Many people here who peruse this Board didn't have the internet or COC available when we were raised OR chose to be a JW. But, you have been fortunate enough to have these vehicles available to you in the year 2002. You only meant what I've been telling some friends I have made on this site and that is: If I knew the things back in 1984 (when I got baptized) that I know now, I wouldn't have become a JW. The Org will lose many potential "sheep" because of the internet and books, such as COC.

    Now, to answer your question:
I just finished reading COC and I must tell you that it's a very candid and honest book. I already had doubts prior to reading it. So, it definitely enhanced or broadened my doubts. There was so much other terrible things that I learned about the GB in reading that book. If your girlfriend is open-minded and willing to read it, then definitely offer it to her. However, if she's seeing you on the "down-low", then as soon as you offer her the book, she may go running scared back to the elders. The last thing a JW wants to be shown is something 'apostate'. My advice, go with your inner feeling.

    Jerome,
I'm with Biggs (comments above) on this one. No offense for your earlier comments too, but I was also raised as a JW so didn't have much choice.
Finally at the age of 34 (last year), I read CofC - it will DEFINITELY have an impact on ANY witness that reads it with an open mind. This book (books) works, and has worked for thousands of people already. The key is giving it to her at the right time. You may need to prime her for it for a while first. As Biggs said, no JW will want to read this unless they are seriously doubting or disillusioned.
My hunch is that if she has you as a "worldly" boyfriend then she is already going against the Org so she may be ripe for your help at this time.

JUST BUY THIS FUCKING BOOK, TIE HER TO A CHAIR, AND READ IT TO HER.
(could be more fun than it sounds!)

    Jerome,

I want to apologize for my short nasty comments posted above. At the time, I did not know the context of your questions, as revealed via several threads.

As several others have more gently pointed out, there are a number of reasons why people become JW's. Some are born into it as I was. Some are vulnerable to its influence at a certain point in their lives, etc.

I think the more important question for you is what you can do for your girl friend, and there is no "one best way" answer to that question.

Some questions I have are the following: How old is she? Why is with you instead of a Witness man? How active is she in her religion? How "involved" are the two of you? Perhaps, you have discussed this, but I haven't seen it.
