For me it's many reasons why I do or do not comment.
There are so many threads and I'm not always on the board every day. I default to the latest threads when I log in and select 'active topics'.
There are some subjects I cannot comment on as I have no opinion, no expertise or little knowledge. (EG. Political things overseas in the US for instance or personal coping issues).
I often feel that if I DO comment it might not be appropriate to the subject and might just be an observation or ironic comment that throws the thread off course.
I do like to place magazines though..........here's one from my bookbag that illustrates the point about going 'off thread'......

Don't take it personally. I have made threads in the past that I thought were clever, 0 comments.
When I first joined here I used to read every thread.
Now I scan all the active topics and maybe choose 1 out of every 20 or 30 (time limitation).
Plus this board moves so fast it's easy for a thread to get missed.

Sometimes I'm not sure how to respond so I don't. Sometimes someone else has already said what I would have said, and better than I could, so I leave well enough alone.
Often I chuckle or nod when I like the post but am not prompted to respond to it. I just liked it.

You can tell by my post count that I am more likely to comment than most.
I am just glad that people view posts and I hope they comment when it can help.
I typically only comment on fluff when I am waiting for other threads to be updated by comments, but I am glad we have fluff for those that like it.

Dear Lovedoctor,
I post for many reasons ...usually on subjects that grab me by the gut or heart.
I have lived in 8 decades and think, that just maybe, my advice could have some value to those who ask for it. I am thrilled when it does.
If I reply to give support and then realize it's just a joke ...that turns me off.
If I reply in all sincerity and it's never aknowledged, just more or less blown off by the poster ... after afew times I won't bother again.
I love to reply to the posters like Mr Flipper. And I'll tell you why.............
he talks to you .... he actually makes a note of his audience and thanks them.
I love his manners, his warmth, his concern, his support and his heart.
There are many on here like that and thank you so very much.

Usually someone has made my point or sometimes I feel I do not have the freedom to say something since I am still active.

I will only post if I think I can add something new to the conversation - or I am personally very moved by the post.
