I understand the shameful attitude and conduct people have in mind when they use the terms, "racist" and "racism" but I sometimes think we are inadvertantly perpetuating a myth and missing much in the process.
For example, people often use the term, "White race." Anthropologists don't accept the term "Race" today, but back when they did, it had nothing to do with skin color. It was based on slight differences in the shape of the skull. It's true that most light-skinned Europeans were classified as "Caucasian" but that term also included everyone in Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, all of Arabia, and all of India. In other words, there is no "White race" and never has been.
The truth is, humans are willling to hate each other for almost any excuse. I was at a construction site once in Northern Arizona and noticed that people either sat at the north or south of the building when they took their breaks. They sat as far north and and as far south as they possibly could with their backs against each respective wall.
I asked the job superintendent what was going on and he said, "We are Hopi. --They are Navajo."
I asked, half jokingly, "Which are which?"
He looked at me slightly offended and said, "Can't you tell? They are the ugly ones."

Do they base this on the same thinking of the ignorant whites of history, who used ideas from the Bible to prove this odd thinking

When I was a child they still had the separate entrances in buildings for "Negros".
They were only allowed to swim on certain days in the public pools..
They were only allowed to sit in the very back of a bus
They had to give the whites the right of way..and call them sir and mam..
Being raised that way made it hard to later accept the "equal" part..old habits die hard.
Course we were also taught to cross the street if we saw a "Jew" coming our way. They, like gypsies" were known to steal babies and put curses on people, plus they were so dirty!
Ennie meenie meinie moe had different words back then..
Thankfully someday it will all be gone, but for now it still lingers in the minds of some..sadly.
I liken it to the same brainwashing that the JW's did to many and still do today..hopefully someday that will be gone also..

Don't do it! It's a trap. Don't mention statistics. You'll be labeled a "racist". You'll be accused of getting them from the KKK website. Don't talk about IQ, illegitimacy, drop-out rate, prison population, inter-racial violent crime, welfare, or any of that stuff. None of it matters, because it's all Whitey's fault. You should know that by now, Cracker!
All I can say is "Oh Wow?!"
By the way my kids are black and three of them are on honor roll and my youngest one who has autism taugh himself to read when he was 2 1/2 years old (he's seven now and builts models of the titanic and the empire state building out of legos.)
Oh and another thing, neither my husband or I have criminal records, nor have we ever smoked crack, both of us graduated college, and yeah hubby's on disability and we've had to obtain state help but that was after both of us had been in the workforce since we were able to work at 16. My oldest son is 17 and he's not anyone's baby daddy. Hell he hasn't even kissed a girl yet.
My children have had very limited exposure to racism, even when we lived in Indiana. They have white and black friends (they still do here in Calfornia), the kind of friends who would invite them over for sleepovers and not care that they were black and fear that my kids were going to do something wrong. I know I should prepare them for the ignorance and stupidity that is coming (and that I see on this board - one reason why they're not allowed here) but I really wish I didn't have to do that.

as long as you still distinguish between "white" and "black" you are a racist. there is no white and black. there are people of different hue (actually more CMYK, with emphasis on the K) levels, ok, but i have only once met a really white and a really black person. the rest is somewhere in between.

P.S. I do not hate white people. I don't not hate my aunt (who's been married to my father's brother for 40 years), I do not hate my cousin (who has been married to my sister-cousin for 20 years), I do not hate my sister-in-law (who has been married to my brother for close to 15 years), and I do not hate a dear sweet friend from Indiana who adopted two crack babies bringing her family total to 7).
All of those folks I just mentioned are white.
Do I care? Nope.
I can't say that I don't see color but I would like to say that I do see hearts
Just because I happen to see differences between the so-called races that don't make me a racist. I do not consider the group I happen to be part of to be superior to any other.

I have seen a lot of Brinks and ADT burglar alarm TV commercials and the intruder who breaks the glass patio door or peeps into the window is always "white", so what gives with that?

Okay, wow, did not expect so many people to read in to this thought in such a way. First of all, 'they' equals people who display racism. Now as to crime rates, etc. I will tell you, this is still not a good basis for racism. You can say, 'A black man robbed me' and not be racisit. You are describing a person by a color of skin to find who did this. No different then saying 'a white man, mid thirties, robbed the bank.' Where it becomes racism is when you look at a black man and think to yourself, 'I think he might commit a crime.' This is giving in to stupidity, as you could be looking at a man who is a preacher, a doctor, a father who is sitting there in his mind thinking of how he needs to get milk on the way home for his family.
What I am gathering here though, is that people are saying racism (modern racism) is based on crime rates??? I'm I right about this? As this same time of thinking, is like saying Asians are all good at math, American Indian's have problems with booze, and Jewish people are cheap. While you might find some in these groups that have these issues. It by no means is saying that everyone in this group should be looked at this way. My cousins who are black, come to see me and will joke that when they are at the grocery store with me. They are watched as if they might take something??? I believe they are, as I live in an area of high racism.
Obama came to our town in his run for President in 2008. I did not go see him, but when I was in the parking lot of the mall, I saw about 50 people getting ready to leave in trucks with racist signs and holding confederate flags. People I have no doubt live in town, work in local businesses and spread their ignorant hate to their children.

- Poverty sucks.
- Blacks are more impoverished than whites; therefore there are more of them in jail.
- What few whites there are in jail, also come from impoverished environments.
Now that wasn't complicated; was it?
