Bob and his family is coming here tonight.
Bob and his family are coming here tonight.
If you set off the clause, and his family, with commas, #1 will be correct.
Otherwise, only #2 is correct.

Thanks, snowbird, I just do not hear it with my ears, I only sign ASL that does not contain exact english. Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to mention that in sentence # 1 you need to remove the and to make the subject/verb agree.
Bob, along with his family, is coming here tonight.

Thanks for the additional grammar education. I appreciate it.
I'm helping myself, also.
Almost have forgotten what Miss Hines patiently taught us.

To demonstrate the value of punctuation the following sentence is used:
That that is is that that is not is not that's it.
That that is, is. That that is not, is not. That's it!
Or this one:
Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise.
Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.
Here in Uk only 2# would be correct because bob + family = plural
Loz x
Neither is correct, Bob is a bastard, and he and his family are getting nowhere near here !
