Antivir works for me.

I've been using Avira and Malware Bytes. Avira isn't bad but I have to say Malware Bytes is fantastic for tracking down and getting rid of viruses

Avast! is free for non-commercial home use.

for windows: comodo internet security has one of the best ratings and is not a memory hog like norton and the likes.

I second the suggestion for Avast. I have been using it for years with no problems.
