    question from a non jw

when you were an active jw how did you think and feel about apostates

well not any apostate like anyone disfelloshipped but the ones whom

they say persisted in causing trouble that tried to get others to

    leave that kind of thing.

Would you have read any of their material and what were the biblical

    explaniations for this.

Good question. I was convinced that they were evil people who knew better but were driven to cause damage to God’s congregation.
1 Cor 10:21: “YOU cannot be drinking the cup of Jehovah and the cup of demons; YOU cannot be partaking of “the table of Jehovah” and the table of demons.”
1 Tim 1:19-20: “holding faith and a good conscience, which some have thrust aside and have experienced shipwreck concerning [their] faith. 20 Hy·me·nae'us and Alexander belong to these, and I have handed them over to Satan that they may be taught by discipline not to blaspheme.”
2 Tim 2: 17,18: “holding faith and a good conscience, which some have thrust aside and have experienced shipwreck concerning [their] faith. 20 Hy·me·nae'us and Alexander belong to these, and I have handed them over to Satan that they may be taught by discipline not to blaspheme.”

    Interesting comment from W99 7/15 p. 17
:::They deny that the end of this wicked system of things is near and criticize the spiritually alert slave class for maintaining a sense of urgency among Jehovah’s people. (Isaiah 1:3) Such apostates succeed in “subverting the faith of some,” inducing spiritual shipwreck.:::

Note: I wonder what the penalty is for saying that the end is near when it’s not?

Even after I had left the truth and was disfellowshipped, it sent shivers down my spine just reading web sites like this. I thought I was letting the devil into my heart. It was very chilling.
It makes me very aware that new people here may feel very wary.
The brain washing I had experienced took a long time to wash away.

They seemed mature and sort of... well, grown-up if you know what I mean, as if they could depend on themselves rather than others. I got the feeling that if they did something for someone that they did it because they could rather than they should.

Honestly I was scared to death of apostates. I remember as a child touring bethel and there was this older fellow that stayed outside the headquarters yelling all kind of funny stuff about the WTS. But my family and I avoided him like the plague. At the time, I was scared; now I think it's funny as hell. I wonder where this dude is now...

Like Frency, ballistic and Daniel, when I was a Dub I was afraid of apostates, which way back then were more often called the "EVIL SLAVE CLASS".

Jehovah's Witnesses are among the most superstitious people in the industrialized world, and they attribute all kinds of supernatural powers to apostates. I was raised a Dub, and was certain that the WT Society was describing >>reality<< with every word in the Watchtower and Awake! and their books. I was wrong about that.

As I got older, I came to know of some in my congregation and nearby congregations who became "apostate" for what I would describe as theological or doctrinal reasons. I also knew of persons who had been disfellowshipped for various "sins," and the "sinners" interested me more than the doctrinal reformers did; but that's at least in part because the WTS never said that a fornicator for example, had supernatural powers.

(Except the power to come, and come and come again.)

Quite honestly, I wasn't afraid of the apostates I knew, but I also wasn't very interested in theological debates, or the delicate twists of scriptural interpretation. I think the way I felt was sort of, "they don't believe the WTS anymore, and this is the BEST they can come up with?"

I was very certain that I would never be among those "called by god," and I was right.

My own "apostacy" has consisted of examining (and - shock! - PARTICIPATING!!) in some Eastern religions and philosophies, with a commitment to none of them; martial arts and science - which I believe is the only tool the mind of man has to understand and explain the world around him. I have no interest in active proselytizing, because I do not believe that mankind urgently needs to be "saved" from something, whether Armageddon or original sin.

Jerome--We are demons, we are evil, wanting nothing but to corrupt innocent and pure brothers and sisters into taking off their pants and um, well getting wild and naked with us worldly people.

Hey, I'm proud to be an apostate!!!!!
