Ok, the whole thing about reformatting your PC just because you need to ONLY use ipv4 is crazy, who told you that? IPv6 can be unchecked from the network adapter you are using and presto, it is disabled.

    hahahahahahaha

baltar447, that was pretty rude, but I'll be gentle with you.

So, to answer your question "who told you that" (and ignoring the 'crazy' bit) ...

Okay, whatever. Don't you think I tried that? DUH.

So, after reading some forum advice (like geeks.com one of the best) and trying to solve the problem,

I called tech support for my IP,,, they walked me through it (already SHOWED as disabled), and STILL had only a speed of 2-4 mbps D/L, instead of the 14-15 I have now.

and THEN, my friend, who is a college-educated, working-in-the-field techie,,,, took my tower home and said "darndest thing I ever saw, couldn't get rid of it so I wiped your hard drive and re-installed the O/S".

Now, it could be that the virus had something to do with it, but we'll never know.

Soooo,,,, let's not portray everything as so cut-and-dried.

This topic was created to make a poke at Microsoft, and to help people, not make them feel stupid.

Ok, the whole thing about reformatting your PC just because you need to ONLY use ipv4 is crazy,

so that's not rude and condescending?

    who told you that?

    answered your question

Without being "rude" You could have just given more information without getting offended.

And NO, that's not rude and condecending. I may be arrogant but I'm not rude.

I am VERY patient with end users, my frustrations have always been with other IT people who just aren't any good at what they do.

So if any of that animosity and frustration sounded like rudeness to you, then I'm sorry.

Oh, and by the way,,, the automatic update from IPv4 to IPv6 cut me off from my ISP as they exclusively use IPv4, and was impossible to uninstall IPv6, so I had to wipe my new PC and reinstall the O/S.

As far as Microsoft being 'evil'.. I think all the big companies are pretty self-serving. Because of the huge customer and business install base, Microsoft tends to be the most scrutinized, and they have by far the most to lose. It's not like Facebook, Google, and Apple haven't been making their own headlines for anti-consumer and anti-competitive lately...

That's why I quit giving free tech advice to anyone other than family and very close friends. I refuse to take the shit without some dollars to go with it.
