I am most aligned with Buddhism, but not a practicing Buddhist.
Ditto, to a certain degree.
I have the teachings of buddhism and have also done research I like some elements of Buddhism. Here a few quotes I like.
Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.
Buddha
The mind is everything; what you think you become.
Buddha
Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.
Buddha
d, those are some very Jesus-y sounding proverbs there. Especially that last bit about working out your own salvation.
OK I started my studies with all the major religons and got really interested in TAO love the Tao de Ching. But I found Buddhism to have so much more depth to it and much more explanation to what life is and how it works including a blue print to life.
That is exactly the part of it I want to avoid. I spent over four decades being told what life is and how it works and given a blue print by the Watchtower Society. Even if the Buddhists happen to be 100% correct, (which is unlikely even if they're light years wiser than anyone else on the planet), I don't want to be told anymore. I can grok on my own. To be honest when I read about the eightfold path I felt like I was reading "religion" again, not just philosophy. I know it is a fine line but I just don't want to go there.
Maybe someday. I've not been out of the Borg that long. I'm open to reading more and the prospect of change.
Some of my ideas just happen to be similar to some buddhist. Some people have asked me if i'm buddhist. Some christians and of course, jws like to push people into boxes. Easier to take shots at em, like that.

I agree agonous. Many of the proverbs of Jesus and Buddha are the same. I read in my book that I am reading Jesus and Buddha the Parallel sayings. The book talks about how similar the two were in fact it even says that some elements of Buddhism may have existed in Jesus's time.
The Tao and Buddhism predate Jesus by hundreds of years. I have no doubt a smart man like Jesus would have known about it. The three wise men, they weren't Jews and there were no Christians yet. Confucianists? Hindu? Buddhist? One of each? Did they only visit once? Did Jesus ever visit them?
There is NO doubt that Jesus knew Eastern philosophy.

It's been strongly suggested by some that the three wise men/Magi were Zoroastrians (i.e. Persians/Farsis), another religion I find eminently fascinating. They pop up quite a bit in the Bible, Darius and Cyrus being just two examples. I believe it was Cyrus who was referred to as "Jehovah's Anointed." Intriguing...
If you trace religious ideas back far enough - all the middle eatern religions go back to Hindusim (or Buddhism - but it is is an offshoot of hinduism).
So many parallels:
The Flood of Noah- One man instraucted the world would be flooded and to gather the animals
The flood in Vedas - Manu the king was instructed a flood was comign and to gather the seeds and animals
Devil named Satan was an angel turned bad and cast out of heaven
Demon named Ketu/ SETU lived in the heavens and was cast out
Jesus and Virgin Mary
Krishna and Mother Devaki who was not concieved by semen (Krsna was hoever raised by adoptive mother Yasoda
Krishna was a cowhearder
Jesus was a carpenter whose skill was not furniture but OX yokes.
To many more to list
