The constitution is not a dead document. Government always seems to impose numerous rules and regulations. It is far easier to stay away from it. The principles of separation and church and state are still valid. James Madison' si ideas are very much alive. Besides, the const'n is not legislation. Short of an amendment, just about impossible, churches cannot be taxed. End of story.
It might be all right in European countries. OUr national identity revolves around relgious dissenters who fled British tyranny and the Established Church of England. A consensus is not formed on an internet forum board. The overwhelming political consensus in this country is to avoid establishments.
