i remember the last days being 'just around the corner' for the first 17 years of my life
my brother is very honest with me and when i asked him (12 years later) if it was straight in front of them yet, he said 'no, its still just around the corner', even he wasnt happy with this explaination

Back in the 70's, a well liked black elder with very imaginative and enthralling public talks in my congregation would stand on the platform, take a deep breath, reach his arms out in gesture and then he would say, "the new system is so near you can almost reach out and touch it!". I often feel sorry for the poor souls who have been told this over and over since the early 1900s.
