The greatest help to me on this board was the support I got as a survivor of incest. I had been here about a year when the stories began to come out in the media and with the silentlambs exposees. I had never considered the elder's role in how I would up being a victim of the policy that protected the abusers. I had always placed 100% of the blame on my mother. But when others started telling thier stories I realized how much influence the elder (only one was involved at that time) had over the decisions to send my aunt and I out of our homes and away from our families. Meanwhile the abuse was covered up and the abuser was left in the home. That was in the mid 60s! That is how far back the WTS was telling elders to sweep the abuse under the carpet. As a result both my aunt (who was 13 yrs old) and my sister committed suicide. My aunt who was terrified of water jumped off a pier and drowned. My sister grew up and became an addict of many different kinds of street drugs and after several attempts using drugs she finally succeeded when she was 42 yrs old. The people on this board gave me so much support and validation of my family's experiences. I can never thank them enough.

So many people have come through this site and found people who understood and listened and support them. This has been an awesome place to come and a soft place to land

Then I got on the internet and started reading. I was floored. I could not believe what I was reading. Like many of you I didn't want to believe it.

The same for me, Lady Lee.I felt so disillusioned and betrayed.

I read so many terribly sad stories, and unfortunately there are new ones all the time.

I am so glad that you were able to finally break free from the mental yoke the WTS held, and that this forum has been instrumental in your life. You are clearly a survivor, and have helped so many (including me) by your continued support for us all. We are priviledged to have you here.

I felt totally betrayed too Quandry. I trusted them when they said things. And they lied. They withheld crucial information.There is no excuse for it None

Thanks Lady Lee and the other "long timers";

After a lot of bad things were done to all the members of our family, some of them sought out the Bethel office for answers. When none were given but the same scriptures used by the elders, one of us started researching the web. We pass the info. back and forth. We were amazed! Now only a few are trapped in the WT lies.

PS: Around 2000 plus, the mantra on the platform was: "The Society doesn't make a big deal over the Holocaust like the Jews do!"

I have recently become aware and am thankful for this forum. My becoming aware and feeling so betrayed led to a mental breakdown(I posted my experience under JW/experiences)
