As one famous mountaineer said "The mountains are beautiful but to live there is like living in an arsehole in the sky". I can't agree more.
Mountains are beautiful, incredible in the summertime, and there is no better place to live. In the long winters it's more akin to frozen hell. Yes, nice to visit sometimes, but the cold gets to you. ;)

Thanks heaps for your kind words . . . it says little about me but heaps about you guys . . . you're a fantastic bunch!
I'm back in the city briefly after a few days of fact-finding . . . and I'll be gone again for a while. I've been checking out an opportunity . . . it's up near the mountains, but Shamus also nailed it . . . it's only 1/2 an hour from the coast . . . such is the nature of living in beautiful NZ.
Our family is leaving the city and heading for a tiny rural town to set up in an automotive garage / service centre / fuel supplier, type business. I'll post some pictures when I next get back. It all comes with a rambling old house with plenty of room, 2 x log burners, huge vege garden, pool room, swimming pool, chookhouse, paddocks etc etc. In short, it's just the opportunity we've been looking for to get shot of this earthquake ravaged city.
Two of my lads are into automotive careers so are jumping out of their skins to give it a go. Also, wifey won't have to work so damn hard. I've got shitloads to do but will drop in when I can.
Great to see so many newcomers here at JWN . . . can't keep up!
