I use to have a very close friend who was a Scientologist.

I went with him to the Celebrity Center in downtown Hollywood.

I went into the mansion and took a "personality test" and watched a lecture and video and got an example of

being "audited" by holding on to the E-meter and being asked a "rundown" of questions.

My point in bringing this up is that it was all great fun!

If you are going to choose a boring religion when a fun religion is available you just don't have a sense of humor.

To wit: what appeals to people and what they end up dedicating their life to is largely a matter of personal taste rather than

an actual search for answers. Imho.

    Terry, what an interesting thread!

I'm a mixture. Part of me falls for all manner of weirtd and wonderful things, but it's held in check by the other part of me that is insistently logical and scientific in approach, so that everything gets subjected to severe scrutiny.

Which just about sums up why I've been drawn to the JW's and end up here....

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Cryptozoology - well, there is the Coelacanth, Archeteuthis [spelling?], and a few rare plant species - including an ancient tree recently discovered in Australia...

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Subliminal perception - there is some evidence that it can be effective at influencing consumers' purchases under certain circumstances...

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Chiropractic adjustments - I've found them to be productive, although a good, regular yoga or belly-dance workout will do about the same thing...

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Colon cleansing - I've found it to be of some use - especially if I've been eating lots of junk food. However, doing a "colon cleansing and fast" more often than once a year, seems to be over-doing it... Most useful if a person isn't eating right in the first place, as it puts a lot of plant fiber thru the digestive system...

I assume that you've read Wilson Bryan[t?] Keye's books on subliminal suggestions??

There are many kinds of frauds. But I feel that the worst fraud that many of us have being victims, is the WT. If I read a book by Zechariah Zetzin, or David Icke, or Eric Von Daniken , the impact it will not be compared to the one of being in the Watchtower Cult. There your life is at stake, due to WT's dogmatic twisted ideas, and your existence, your life, your thoughts, even your family, belongs to the WT.

I have read Eric's Von Daniken, book "Chariots of the Gods". Since I live in a place that has more than 10,000 years of history, we even have megalithic monuments, I have visited Egypt end the Pyramids, and indeed when you see those monuments your can feel that there is something beyond that. And this are just few for the many monuments around the World that scientists and historians are trying to figure out, how did our ancestors build those huge megalithic monuments, that with our modern technology, we will find it hard to do so...

I'm sure that for many reasons, historians do not go deep enough to search our history. I know that there is something out there, and this "something" you can find it in the legends, history, and mythology of the world. If we have been visited by extra terrestrials and somehow they gave knowledge to mankind, I don't see any issue with that.

Times are changing and mankind is moving forward. If I could back in the 30's and tell my grandfather that we will have spacecrafts that will land to the moon, (and soon in Mars) and Cosmonauts will walked there, I know he would have laughed and he will think I'm crazy. Even if I could told him that we have cell phones and you can see the person at the other site of the planet from the camera of my phone I know he wouldn't believe me. Imagine if I tell him that we would have space stations orbiting the Earth and we have people working there and doing experiments!!!

It is in human nature to examine and discover new things. We search of our past and look forward to the future. Our past has a lot of things to say. What we need to do is to examine the evidence and conclude what is real and what is fraud.

Crop circles – geometric designs of crushed or knocked-over crops created in a field.

My son and his friends made several near Lethbridge once. The elders told us to keep it quiet and not go to the authorities. Incredible amount of $$$ gets spent on these investigations!

    http://www.noufors.com/crop_circles.html (scroll down to Lethbridge)

Sudbury, Ontario, STAR, 4 September 1991, page A4

    Crop circles defy any explanation

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. (CP) - The mystery is growing as peculiar circle patterns continue to turn up in southern Alberta crop fields with no apparent cause.

Two new sites of crop circles were discovered near the city of Lethbridge over the weekend.

One site was discovered near an animal disease research institute about five kilometres west of the city Saturday.

Three circles were then found on a farm Sunday, with connecting pathways, about three kilometres southeast of the site discovered Saturday.

Farmer Jenny Skinner said a man combining a wheat field she leases from the city came upon the circles - two of them four metres in diameter, and a third, two-metre circle - all connected by narrow trails.

"It makes me nervous," Skinner said Tuesday. "I don't think I want to be alone out here at night any more. We've farmed this land since 1960 and we've never seen anything like this."

"Sometimes you'll find a spot where a deer has lain down, and you can see the footprints, but that's completely different."

That makes four crop-circle sites which have turned up in southern Alberta in the last few weeks. The first, on Aug. 21, was in a wheat field just north of the Lethbridge city limit.

Gordon Kijek, director of a UFO study group based in Edmonton, investigated the north Lethbridge site and a subsequent finding a few days later of larger circles near Okotoks, a community about 20 kilometres south of Calgary.

He said samples of grain and earth taken from the first two sites are being tested by Alberta Agriculture and a UFO research facility in Winnipeg.

He said several people who visited the north Lethbridge site reported headaches afterward, but added he didn't experience such problems.

    OOOOOOOOOO Crop Circles!!

Those are high art, in my opinion!! But definitely HUMAN-generated...

After all, what alien in his/her/its right mind would waste time making symbols out of crushed grass...

I'm strongly tempted to get a group of crop-circle artists started here in Colorado - except that GUNS are far more popular with western farmers than with English farmers...

That business about the crushed wheat/grain being 'different' - I've wondered whether the effects of being smashed down and then left in the sun to dry out, might account for those effects that have been observed on the 'circle' grain stalks...

Zid - huge fan of crop-circle ART...

Dowsing- Never tried it with sticks but in construction we learned to use two copper wires bent into L shapes, hold the small part of the L with each hand and you can find a iron sewer pipe or water pipe like a son of a gun, .... open to criticisms on this one.

I would call bullshit on this one if I hadn't tried it and saw that it worked up to a point. On a completely level concrete floor I found a copper water pipe by using 2 "L" shaped pieces of copper wire. The floor was probably 30 feet wide and had tables and machinery around the edge. I started in the open spot in the middle walking back and forth slowly moving from one side to the other. I kept getting "hits" as I walked back and forth which I marked. When I was done I saw that the marks all lined up with each other so I moved the machinery away from the walls and Lo and Behold...a 2" copper waterpipe at each end. Could hardly believe my eyes and could just shake my head in disbelief.

I even laid a 3' level on the floor to make sure it was straight. Weird.

If you get a map of groundwater in your vicinity the first thing that shocks you is that water is damned near EVERYWHERE! Hard to get it wrong when dowsing.

The same is true of Earthquake activity. There is a website that shows you all the earthquake activity each and every day around the world.

Once you see that it is continuous rather than occasional it helps you revise your astonishment quotient!

A lot of mysterious and miraculous things are merely the result of our ignorance rather than our knowledge.
