When I was a kid aged 11 I was A Jw kid but I absolutely loved to read and collect DC Comics (Superman Batman etc)
Then guess what happened ? The WBTS brought out an Awake codemning them !!! And guess what ... Yes I stopped collecting comics in June 1982 at the grand old age of 14 !
Why ? Because they are violent satanic and corrupting on a young mind of course.... What a load of CRAP !!!
The WBTS stole agreat part of my childhood away from me ... would they have preferred it if I collected porn mags ??!!(actually i did...secretely of course !!)
Anyone else had a similar experience ?

When i was about 12 yrs old, one of our nieghbors gave us a whole box full of comix. My dad would not allow us kids to look at them. So, there they sat underneath the bed. Crazy, huh? But did sneak into them a couple of times.

The owner of the world's largest comic book distribution company is a Jehovah's Witness, but a disfellowshiped one. Steve Geppi, owner of Diamond Comics Distributors. It's based in Towson, Maryland. His company makes several hunder million a year.
He owns Superman #1, and lot's of other neat things. I worked there for a while and am best friends with his son, a (yaaaaaaay) former Jehovahs witness who dosent want anything to do with it anymore.

I was allowed to read comic books so long as they were British. My father thought that anything American was a load of rubbish so I wasn't allowed to read the American ones - hence, no Superman, Batman etc. Although when the shows came on TV (who can forget the Bat-Shark Repellant [8>]) I was allowed to watch them.

Prisca Hi
Interesting post . Actually although I collected mainly American comics I also bought British ones like 2000A.D which even 20 years ago was far more violent than DC and Marvel stuff . Talking about TV we wern't allowed to watch the Carry On films on tv because they were "too rude" . Also Grange Hill was out ( encouraged rebellious behaviour etc ) But once the Watchtower or Awake mentioned something specific my dad came down on me like a ton of bricks.
After comics I moved on to computer games ... well we know how witnesses feel about those............. -

Hey Rummy,
My dad used to watch Benny Hill even though he was a well-respected elder and PO. Same went for the Carry On movies, and Dick Emery.
I really enjoyed the Goodies, haven't seen them for ages. I should sign up for cable one day.

Hi again
That reminds me of an elder I knew who told young ones that his favourite film is "Die Hard" ! Also met an elder at assembly who loved Terminator2 . Strange thing about my dad was he used to get The Sun newspaper with page 3 girls in .... wonder why ?
I suppose I'm picking a bit now but once you come away from it all you really remember all the hypocrisy more . Just one more (!).. I knew an elders son who showed me his collection of 18 cert films . His dad knew but told him to keep them hidden in a draw under his bed just in case ... -

One comic book series I enjoyed was Tintin. Loved all those "mysteries" and adventures he and Snowy embarked upon.
Also enjoyed Snoopy and Garfield.
